About Me

www.thecomposters.com

Welcome to the Composting Revolution. The Composters are comprised of Glenda Greenhouse and Mary Mercury and we've been "turning the pile" since 2002 with an edgy blend of performance art, persona, satire, and comedy with a purpose.
The Composters think a lot of problems in the world could be solved with a little compostng action. I mean if it works for banana peels and cucumber slices then why not other things (like the war machine or global warming) just throw it on the pile.
Composting is transformation - literally - it turns death and decay into rich, fertile, hope-filled, sustenance.

There's a revolution in every pile!

So come on and say it with us......

COMPOST THIS !!!

My Interests

Composting (of course). Trash sculpture. Guerilla recycling. Trying to figure out how decaying matter can morph into rich food. We also love performing, laughing, listening and playing music, contemplating many things, or just one thing for a long period of time. We especially like to contemplate where exactly "away" is.........which reminds me, we love fieldtrips in many varied flavors, like when we went to the dump to see where our trash goes (we were rejected!) -- for that story you could read Mary's "Love Letter to the Dump" in our blog.

I'd like to meet:

People who are into transformation and laughter.

Music:

All you have to do is check out our radio show on WDBX.ORG every Monday from 10am-12pm (central time). The describe the music we play as "indie / mods / rock" so I guess that is what we are - but basically we like a wide variety of things and hope you will like it too.
You could also catch a performance - we are sure to throw in a song or two. So far we have a a funky original called "Compost This" as well as a folky but funny "Throw Away." We've also taken to remaking some classics like "Favorite Things" and the "Oompah Loompah" song.
We are currently working on a rendition of "Rocket Man" but we are calling it "Rocket Milk" because evidently components of rocket fuel have been showing up in breast milk. I know, funny, right?
La la la la la...decomposition...la la la la la...everybody has to...eventually!
Rumi captured it best...."We have fallen into a place where everything is music."

Movies:

We are currently working on a documentary style project of our work. Thanks to our wonderful documentarian and collaborator GiGi!
We think making movies these days has to be the best thing in the world to be doing - besides performance art activism of course---- hey wait ----

Books:

deep economy, by bill mckibben, anything by paul hawken and barbara kingsolver, books by amy sedaris & jon stewart, mary douglas's stuff is great, mary daly's gyn/ecology, starhawk is good, carol merchant, ariel gore, al gore, and of course a little theory: derrida, burke, brecht and baudrillard
Really there are too many good books to put down in one place. We review books on our radio show once or twice a month and when we do we will post a bulletin here as well as put them on our website.

Heroes:

microflora

&
Activists

And people who compost - both literally and metaphorically!
