BLUE DEW
In 1988
Blue Dew started with musicians fond of folk music. Blue Dew is still in its original line-up. After they had studied about fifty bluegrass songs, they felt a need to look into the roots of bluegrass. They found the bluegrass roots in the Irish tradition. Thus they created their own style, playing bluegrass traditionals in the Irish folk way, and mixing both styles in their own numbers. They called this mixed style: Blue Dew. Using guitars, mandolin, violin, double bass, bouzouki, blues harp, bodhran, accordeon and harmony singing they have managed to create their own style called Blue Dew, with a repertoire containing their own Blue Dew compositions, bluegrass and Irish music (songs, jigs and reels).
Throughout the years Blue Dew performed at Strictly Country Festivals, at Big Bear Festival together with American and Bulgarian bands, at the Folk Festival Odeon in Zwolle and the European World of Bluegrass. They have played several times in Germany. In 1998 and 2001 Blue Dew played in Ireland. In 2005 Blue Dew played in Poland (Czeremcha and Bialystok).
The Long Journey Home Besides regular concerts Blue Dew performs with a theatre program about the Irish around 1860- 1900. A performance with a visual show (old Irish and American photos) a story about a family living in the time of emigration to America and a lot of Blue Dews finest music.
Roasted Barley
Since may 2006 Blue Dew also performs with a storytelling programm called Roasted Barley. Irish stories are written and told by John Beumer, while the other Blue Dew musicians play their folkmusic during this show.
