Kung-Fu 77

Hi! We've just arrived on Earth...

About Me

Everything's started by the will of Jason Burtally (ex-Lacrymogènes, ex-Bumpers, The Ratzingers) to set up a new Experimental pop-rock band. KUNG-FU 77's adventures began in december 2000 and was quickly on the same stage of famous belgian bands at this moment as Lilian Gish, Flexa Lyndo, Dimitri, Sharko, Mud Flow, Da Familia, Singe Blanc, Semitones,... After a short break, some new line-up gave a fresh kick with Gilles Guillaume (drums) and Arnaud Larcier (bass-vox). So, the band's back and got more maturity and a personal music style influenced by a bunch of others bands that belong to different times and different genres! KUNG-FU 77's more than ever ready to give some thrills to his audience with a stunning tracklist including catchy rock songs and melancholic pop songs; mixed with a touch of noisy guitars and unusual double voices singing at the same time. The last gigs has been done with nice major kick-ass bands close to the KUNG-FU 77's musical approach, check this out: Hitch, Dancing Naked Ladies, Sportdoen, Zeroscope, Les Anges, Jacob Maersk...Releases: "KUNG-FU 77" (1st demo-2001), "STEREO REEL" (2d demo-2002), "DRIVE-BY SHOOTINGS" ( E.P.-2004, including D. Bartholomé from Sharko on a title) and the very recently baby: "I WISH YOU WERE HERE" (L.P.-2008). From the start 'till now, the main idea's still there and the evolution just don't stop; this little group's still growing and learning how to deal with his scenic presence in every stage; no matter what! Actually, you may find us among independant compilations as the "2d volume of Massacrés belges" and the " Compilation 1". Check out our Myspace friends for more informations about that, you should find 'em easily...The musical past of frontman Jason's pretty full of experiences: he played with major french alternative rock band as a teenager (Slugs, René Binamé, Forget Mi Note, No Man's Land), then with Queens Of The Stone Age and Marky Ramone, has given some help to Torpid, Major Deluxe, Sportdoen and did a couple of TV theme for Mobistar ads.Changing the long running line-up was inevitable and useful after the short break of KUNG-FU 77. Now, Gilles and Arnaud used to let their personality go and push their own musical conceptions limits out; linking melodic ideas, sonic contrasts and lotta mixed peaceful and strong moments without forget the feelings and the sound research... The whole thing could be heard under what we could named a personalised indie rock pretty original and 100% sincere during each performance. We hope you'll like our music just the way we do... (Many many thanks to Lilou for the pics!)

Sounds Like: Kung-Fu 77 sounds more or less like Sonic Youth (for the noisy and experimental approach), Nirvana (for some of our basic song's structure and the anger, of course), Nada Surf (for the attitude and the "sweet and sour" tone of our songs), Edith Piaf (for the sadness of a couple of our songs), Boris Vian (for the interviews when they turn surrealistics) and finally -but mostly- like ourselves (for the fact that we play what we think and as we are, finally!)
