About Me

Susan was born in Amsterdam and moved to a little town near Maastricht where she turned six. She learned to play the piano in that same year and when she reached the age of 14 she was introduced to the local guitar teacher who turned out to be a funny, positive and inspiring woman. Susan felt like coming home when she held her first spanish guitar in her hands and from then on she often locked herself up in the bathroom to enjoy the sweet echo sounds and effects of the room, her voice and guitar.
Her mother, who is a painter and sculptor www.theamicgielse.nl , always played the guitar and sang songs of Joan Baez, The Beatles, Miriam Makeba and so many more. She translated her emotions and fantasy to sculptures and paintings, played Stevie Wonder records when she was pregnant of Susan, played the greatest records in her studio, in the car, in the living room. There was always music playing! She has always been of great influence in Susans life. And she still is. In 2005 Susan wrote "In My Mothers Room" trying to express the joy of growing up with her artistic mother.
Susan has been singing in the high-school choir, got the opportunity to perform her own songs at the school musical, did some amateur acting and after graduating she played at the Schouwburg van Maastricht with the "Cafe Chantant" group and sang her songs from time to time. The singing never stopped, but the performing did when she started studying at the University in 1997. She chose a life of studying, partying and working instead of performing on stage.
But in 2005 she met Arthur Bont www.arthurbont.nl who convinced her to start singing again and in three days, not quite knowing each other, they recorded three songs at the Labrie Studio www.labryenco.nl with some great musicians form Holland. You can listen to these songs at this website (click on the play button in the music player at the upper site of this page).
Susan now lives in Amsterdam and is writing new material and ready to record an album which she hopes to release in short time.
In 2006 she started to perform her songs at the local pubs and theaters and ended up second in the "Mooie Liedjes 2006" ("Beautiful Songs 2006") contest. She played in the finals of "Mooie Noten 2007" ("Beautiful Notes 2007") and had the honor to perform at "De Uitmarkt" at KHL in 2007.
