Gato Loco

Death-Danzon

About Me

“Gato Loco” screams it's way through latin jazz while incorporating free-improv, delicate textures, and dense compositions. Formed in 2005, Stefan Zeniuk (tenor sax), Brian Drye (trombone), Joe Exley (tuba), Mike Gamble (guitar) & Greg Stare (drums) have been aggressively mixing genres into a latin-based synthesis of the NYC sounds of the new millenium. Called "Jazz, peppered with Latin, punk, and classical influences," (Misscellany News, 2006) ............................................................ ............................................................ .........In 2007 Gato Loco took a 2nd incarnation, known as "Low End". Low End plays cover arrangements of early Cuban son dance hits from the 1920s-1940s. The quartet plays times the great compositions of Ignacio Pinero, Arcenio Rodriguez, Chano Pozo, Quarteto Habanero, Casino De La Playa, Maria Teresa Vera, as well as traditional folk songs, all filtered through subsonic instruments played as delicately as possible. tuba, bari sax, baritone acoustic guitar, and acoustic bass guarantees that you feel the music, rather than hear it"Gato Loco could be the ultimate low frequency band: the only instrument that uses the upper registers is the guitar. Using oldtime Cuban music from the 1920s and 30s as their stepping-off point, they typically get a fat, low-end groove going and then have a lot of fun with the melody, waaaaay down there." --Lucidculture.com.......................................... ............................................................ ...........................In 2008 G.L. took even a 3rd face on, that of a big-ish band. Gato Loco Coconino is a 10-piece deranged salsa band, playing hot and heavy grooves that will make you twitch on the dance floor ............................................................ ............................................................ ..........Gato Loco Originale released their debut album, "On Parade" in 2007, in a very limited run. To date, 62 copies have been sold. They're always available at shows, or email us for your own, custom-made version. Low End just finished recording their debut album, "Malditos Besos" in January of 2008. That too will be available at shows, and hopefully in stores as well.
