industry peeps frequently reach band saturation point. so many guitars and post Libertines impersonators, all looking for their five minutes of fame while poufing their hair into sky high configurations of hairspray. boys knowing only a smattering of chords while jerking across the stage as A&Rs bounce a solitary leg in accordance with how ‘buzz’ the band are.yet sometimes ears are pricked towards something decisive and skilled. a quirky set of songs with tub-thumping base lines, skuzzy guitars and punchy harmonies, all brought to you by four delicious men who are unafraid to enjoy their musical task. Alvarez King’s guitarist Will attests to this. “there’s so many fireworks bands who can’t really play but want to get laid and have very good shoes. i do like nice shoes though…..â€the love-child of The Strokes, We Are Scientists and The Beach Boys, labels have been pressing the band for some time now but the boys want time to perfect their tunes without too much pressure. now the tracks are finally shaping into zippy close-knit creations. ‘Despair on the Stairs’ is a deliberately aggressive punchy indie disco hybrid while “38 Miles†is an invitation to radio play. after the rise of the Sheffield scene, press have been quick to look slightly to the right to Rotherham for a sound that is a step on. “it’s weird to watch people you know like Reverend and the Makers doing their thing. but it means you can let your sound escape at a different time, and it’s great that we were able to take a step back from the scene, as it were,†mulls Simon. “i’m really pleased with what we have, and it means our live shows really up the ante. what are you doing if every second isn’t completely driven, fantastic and lunatic?â€indeed the band’s explosive live show is selling the band far and wide. fresh from supporting bands such as The Enemy, the sheer animal fun that exudes from the close knit gang ensures a dancing crowd everywhere they go. volatile, tapped and ready to freak, Alvarez Kings are on a precipice that cannot fail to see them pummel the airwaves with passion and precision.Alvarez Kings are Simon Thompson (vox, guitar), Will Pashley (vox, guitar), Paul Thompson (vox, bass) and Rich Walker (drums).
