Silent Film Project is the collaboration of five talented young musicians who have big plans to mark Sheffield’s already vibrant music scene with their new, pop-sensible approach to fresh British indie. A unique blend of dual male-female vocals, jangly riffs and a funky rhythm section create a feast of live entertainment that is eclectically pleasing and guaranteed to hook any audience.
Having recently relocated to Sheffield from Scunthorpe, Silent Film Project have already gained a residency at one of the City’s more notable music venues: The Frog And Parrot. Their 2006 E.P ‘The Communicator’s Gifts’ has earned them the accolade of Channel 4’s ‘Unsigned Band of the Week’, a music video for Sky Television and saw Silent Film Project scoop the Scunthorpe Rock Open title before they left.
Taking creative influence from the likes of The Smiths, The Coral and The Cure, their live performance is often described as akin to the electric exuberance of The Jam or The Strokes. Such a variety of influence allows Silent Film Project to write material that manages to remain fresh at a time when the British indie scene is swamped with an already-defined style.
Silent Film Project are constantly writing fresh material, and can be found electrifying audiences around the country. Appearances at the Beach Break and Party in the Park festivals have given the five-piece a taste of the bigger stages, and the vast amount of experience they have on-stage is demonstrated night after night as they continue to form good relationships with promoters, venues and other bands with their professional approach, both on-stage and off-stage.
