About Me

Paul Song was born and raised in Seoul Korea, and immigrated to the U.S. in 1993 at age of thirteen. As his family settled into their new home of Portland, Oregon; he set out to find his calling in the new and exciting city. And did he ever. Paul has since been responsible for a long list of accomplishments, but none as significant as the rise to his current status as Portlands premier breakbeat artist, Sidestep. ============================================================ ==================================== Jump back to 1999 when Paul attended his first warehouse party. It was then that he became enthralled with electronic music and the lifestyle that surrounded it. This would prove to be a defining moment in his life as he set off on a journey to leave his mark on the culture that had immediately captivated his attention. After witnessing several live performances by West Coast breakbeat artist, DJ Dig-Dug; Paul realized that the genres tough drums and driving basslines were calling out to him as well. ============================================================ ==================================== Paul's natural tendency towards music aided him as he worked on perfecting the skills necessary to become a talented DJ. Confident in himself and his craft, Sidestep soon began to gain recognition in the Northwest for his energy behind the decks and his unique blend of funky nu-skool breaks. More recently, he has really come into his own with performances alongside Krafty Kuts, Simply Jeff, Freestylers,The Crystal Method, DJ Icey, Deekline & Wizard, Freestylers, DJ Craze, Sharaz, DJ Baby Anne, DJ Fixx, Freq Nasty, Uberzone, Rennie Pilgrem, DJ Hyper, Reid Speed, Bad Boy Bill, Richard Humpty Vision, Donald Glaude, Dieselboy, Aphrodite, DJ Rap, and @ FUTURE SOUND OF BREAKS V.5.0 with many other top talents within the industry. ============================================================ ==================================== As if all this wasnt enough, Paul is also responsible for the success of Red Cube Productions, Portlands most notorious electronic music event production crew. By consistently providing a superior level of talent at a very competitive price, Paul and his partner have earned the unwavering respect of DJs, booking agents, and patrons alike. His contributions, both musically and otherwise, have been noticed by the masses. Keep a close eye on Sidestep as he continues to push Portlands underground music scene to new heights and begins to add solid production to his very impressive resume. ============================================================ ==================================== "Sidestep spins an eclectic blend of funky and nu school breaks every time I see him perform. His energy behind the decks translates into the exciting set he brings to the party! Keep rocking it like you do, yo!" - Simply Jeff======================================================== ========================================
