BIOGRAPHY

Simon Shackleton’s Elite Force project began way back in 1996, debuting on his own newly founded Fused and Bruised label with a series of peerless 12s and remixes. After a successful five years,he put Fused and Bruised on the backburner to concentrate on production work, and following several years with Whole9Yards and Moonshine he became a mainstay recording artist for Adrift Recordings (formally known as Kingsize Records) before moving on to set up his own Used & Abused imprint.
Often credited for being a lynchpin in the developing the tech-funk genre (an amalgamation of breaks, house, techno and electro) he has released a series of highly successful singles in the past few years, finding broad support from DJs and musicians across the board, including the likes of James Zabiela, the Plump DJs, Laurent Garnier and Damian Lazarus. In addition to these solo singles, Meat Katie has been a regular collaborator with Elite Force, a relationship that had begun in 2003 with the massive-selling 'Toba'. As a remixer, Elite Force has always been in considerable demand, with re-workings for the likes of Grandmaster Flash, Crystal Method, Jungle Brothers, Stereo MCs, UNKLE, Infusion, Rennie Pilgrem, Shiloh and Dylan Rhymes all contributing to his reputation as one of the most creative and effective remixers around.
Elite Force's music has also been the soundtrack to many a movie, with a huge list of impressive A-list credits to his name, including the likes of the Matrix, Charlie's Angels, Arlington Road, Mortal Kombat, Crow, The Bone Collector, The Jackyll, Spiderman 2 and his music has appeared on a wide array of TV shows, from CSI to Top Gear, from Football Focus to LA Doctors. He's also soundtracked a number of computer games, including no fewer than 5 FIFA games, several of the Wipeout series, The Matrix, and Motorstorm 1, and he is currently writing some bespoke music for the sequel to one of the biggest games of all time......
On the decks, Elite Force has been a prime mover since 1990 when he cut his teeth playing huge student nights and self-promoted acid house nights in the South West of England, before moving up to London and ultimately gravitating towards his tech-funk style, with which he now has a full diary of global bookings and has become known as one of the top technicians on a circuit that has included massive shows in Hungary, Australia, Italy, USA, Czech Republic, India, Turkey, Spain, Japan and China, as well as numerous festival slots including Glastonbury, Coachella and the Glade. His bi-weekly strongarm sessions webcasts have become something of an intraweb institution since their inception back in 2001, and the most recent archives should be your first stop if you've not come across the Force in action before :)
LATEST FROM THE ROAD ...

27/oct-07 : Opel Halloween @ Mighty, San Francisco, USA I flew in to the US during the day, and that night played after my good friend Dylan Rhymes at one of the best parties of the year in San Fran. The costumes were simply out of this world, and that alone upped the energy levels by a good few notches.
06/oct-07 : Sfinks Club, Sopot, POLAND. First time for me at the lovely Sfinks Club in Sopot, part of the tri-city in Poland, and was a great, excitable night. I was on the 6am flight home though, which hurt like hell!
30/sep-07 : Babyface, Shanghai, CHINA. Okay, so I've played several times at Babyface in Shanghai and they've always been good shows, but this one was a little special as it was the start of the Chinese National Holiday, which lasts a week and saw the club absolutely mobbed. My good friend and excellent host, Anders, took thousands of photos and these are just two of my favourites from the night.
23/mar-07 : Angel Club, Beijing, CHINA This was the first time I'd played in Beijing despite having been to China a few times, and it was a superb night all round - at one point people were shaking the booth so hard I thought the whole lot was gonna collapse!

17/feb-07 : La Serata, Juarez, MEXICO. Awesome night over the border from El Paso in Juarez and my first time playing in Mexico. The club was packed, killer soundsystem and the people were party ANIMALS :)
25/nov-06 : Harbourlife, Sydney, AUSTRALIA. This was an amazing day. First up I flew out of Melbourne to arrive in Sydney for a late afternoon set at the mangificent Harbourlife (pictured), and then straight from there to Brisbane to play at the MoonBar, which was another highlight of a tour for which the term 'an embarrassment of riches' could have been coined.
21/oct-06 : The crazy crowd @ Switch in Tbilisi, GEORGIA. Had been looking forward to my first trip to Georgia for as long as Meat Katie'd been raving about the crowds out there. And I wasn't disappointed :) Some of the friendliest, most passionate & committed people I've met.
Have A Break @ Cinema Club, Kiev, UKRAINE More on this on the new blog, but it was a wicked night all round - played for two & a half hours with loads of new stuff to throw at the crowd after another long week in the studio.

Compilation :: Lot49 Presents Elite Force

Monday 4th February marks the long-awaited release of the Lot49 Presents Elite Force mix album.

Lot49 continue its window on the world of dark, sweaty nightspots with its second instalment of "Lot49 Presents", this time enlisting the talents for what is (unbelievably) the first DJ Comp from none other than Elite Force, despite his regular Strongarm Sessions webcasts being amongst the most successful online shows for electronic music.

If you've seen Shack (as he's known to many) DJ you'll know what to expect; a seamless and almost alchemic blend of styles, quick fire cuts as well as melodic overlays and most importantly an energy that portrays his 14 years at the cutting edge of production and djing.

Whether frontman for electronic punk outfit Lunatic Calm, film/video game-music producer extraordinaire, adored DJ (if you've seen this man play you'll know why) or underground dance producer, Elite Force is a name synonymous with quality. On Lot49 Presents Elite Force, the big man demonstrates exactly why his name is held in such high esteem. Kicking off with the steady pulse of Audiojack’s Hijacked rework, the mix rolls seamlessly through man-of-the-moment Dubfire’s rendition of Stop The Revolution before taking things up a notch courtesy of Lot49 head honcho Meat Katie, who contributes the exclusive What The Hell Is Wrong With You?. From there, things accelerate through an exhilarating blend of breaks and house, taking in red-hot material from the likes of Santos, Trevor Loveys, Blende and The Rogue Element before climaxing with a super fresh, straight-out-the-studio offering from Hyper entitled Computer Says No!

A perfect snapshot of all that is exciting in electronic music at the moment, ‘Lot49 Presents Elite Force’ sees Shack at the height of his musical powers; collecting together cutting edge music from established producers as well as up-and-coming talent, straddling genres and bringing it all together - as only he knows how.

The end of the set at La Serata, Juarez, Mexico on 17th February 2007. A great night!!

Influences: Aside from the music I'm known for making, my tastes are pretty broad to be honest...here's a random selection doing the rounds on the iPod at the moment:

Underworld, Sonic Youth, Elbow, Howe Gelb, Etta James, Ry Cooder, Trentemoller, Aphex Twin, Debussy, Krzysztof Penderecki, Richie Hawtin, Grandaddy, Terry Riley, Renegade Soundwave, Akufen, Massive Attack, Primal Scream, Ulrich Schnauss, Alex Reece, Emergency Broadcast Network, Metallica, Detroit Escalator Company, Pavement, Nathan Fake, Fela Kuti, Switch, Angelo Badalamenti, Terry Riley, Korn, M.A.N.D.Y., ...and on it goes.

None of that probably makes any sense of what my music sounds like....

Latest Elite Force Releases

Elite Force - Ghetto Fabulous (Remixes) [Re:Vision 002] [UAA009]
OUT NOW :: Exclusively at Beatport

Hot on the heels of the recent re-workings of 'Melodik Hypnotik', Elite Force returns with the next installment of the Revision remix project, a concept that sees classic records from his catalogue remixed by some of the hottest producers of the moment. The recording under deconstruction this time is the timeless 'Ghetto Fabulous' which was setting dancefloors alight in 2005 when the original was released on Kingsize Records.

The first of the 2 mixes comes from Dopamine, whose previous remixes for the likes of John Acquaviva, Alex Metric and Dan F have both maintained him a firm favourite of the breaks scene, and have given him a much broader appeal. Here he takes the original track and breathes new life into it with a simple rolling arrangement that retains much of the character of the original with added smackdown. The second of the mixes comes from Hungary's oft underrated production genius and DJ extraordinaire, Fine Cut Bodies, who takes things down a twisting house avenue, turning in a slow building track that rises in intensity whilst holding a tight hypnotic glam-groove. Both producers have excelled themselves on these mixes, and DJ support has been huge.

Elite Force - Melodik Hypnotik
(Miles Dyson/ Riva Starr Mixes) [Re:Vision 001] [UAA008] OUT NOW :: Exclusively at Beatport The eighth release on U&A Recordings sees the release of the first in a series of remixes of older Elite Force tracks, under the project-name Re:Vision. Originally released on the now defunct Kingsize label, 'Melodik Hypnotik' was one of the labels biggest records of it’s time and now it returns on U & A Recordings in newly formed versions from 2 of the hottest remixers around, with the added bonus of the re-mastered original mix, and Elite Force's very own re-rub from '05, which has never been available until now. The first mix comes from Plasmapool's Miles Dyson and melds electro house attitude with classic breaks fonk stylings to create a huge big room monster. His recent remixes successes with releases such as 30Hz’s ‘Daddio’ Jude Sebastien's 'Rubberman' have shown that Miles Dyson is playing at the very top of his game, and his mix of Melodik Hypnotik is no doubt set to be his biggest yet. The second mix is from Dirtybird artist Riva Starr who turns in a awesome, low-slung, deep techy take on things and comes up with a stripped and hypnotic version that jacks up the bass and lets fly with a groove that is rolling and percussive. Quality house music that clearly shows why Claude Von Stroke has taken this talented producer on board.

Trevor Loveys (Freerange / Speakerjunk) "I like this a lot - got a good pushing forward energy to it - drop it and see how she blows!"
Ian Carey (Gfab Records) ""Great stuff, loving the funkyness. It's in my cd burner now!"
Bass Kleph (Breaking Point) "The Miles Dyson mix is the one for me. Keep it bouncy baby"
30Hz (Lot 49) "Like both mixes a lot - prob end up playing Miles Dyson as it's more meathead"
Plump DJs (Finger Lickin') "Really into the Dyson mix. Will play this weekend."
Ben Ervine (Ben & Lex) "both mixes are freaking HUGE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! cant get enough of either.. so am dropping both while playing out"
Clive Tagsta (Tricksta) "Colon quaking excellence, Jesus on steroids on a bike without stabilisers - just played both mixes at a squat party in Brighton and got baps of appreciation was gonna say Miles Dyson for me but the Riva Starr has got legs ... both rule"

Many thanks for the continued support,
s
