A Brief History of The Accused (1981 - Present):
In 1981, three bored teenagers: Chewy, Dana & Tom, lived on Whidbey Island,
Washington, where they formed a punk rock band, called 'The Accüsed'. The Island's
isolation was both inspiring and maddening. The three of them
hoped someday to make it off 'the rock' and experience a
punk scene on the mainland. 1982 saw the acquiring
of John Dahlin on vocals; a MAJOR turning point for The Accused
as the music they made was getting noticed.
Eventually, like Alcatrazz-jailbirds, they escaped from the rock
via State Ferry to the mainland--seeking others who
were ' into the new punk sound' and who would enjoy the band's music.
In 1983, they entered their first 'real' recording studio to record
their first album, a split 12" L.P; their side titled 'Please Pardon Our Noise It Is The Sound of Freedom' at this point The Accused formed a strong alliance with Burien, Washington punk
icons' REJECTORS.
The ACCUSED's longetivity and staying power
is a testament to the determination and drive of its key members
over the years, resulting in milestones such as:
Recorded 10 albums ('official' and otherwise);
traveling through 49 U.S. States; visiting 20+ countries;
being in EVERY major heavy metal/hard rock/punk rock
magazine and fanzine that would listen; creating a band mascot
'Martha Splatterhead' who, among other things, made
VICE Magazine's 'Top Ten Metal Mascots of All Time'!!;
Inspired a 12-band 'Accused Tribute' record (Transparent Records-double-7 inch) AND
created their own musical genre: 'Splatter Rock' !
The ACCUSED are The Kings of 'Splatter Rock', which is a musical mash
of bloody, carnage-laden horror, marinated in a broth
of metal and hardcore punk, simmering in a stew of un-thinkable
brutality and eye-popping gore. Lyrically, they generally fixate on
quick and painful revenge served upon those deserving of it
and are obsessed with the viceral and varied ways
their long-time mascot,
Martha Splatterhead, will bring dirtbags to justice for them.
The Accused continue to perform and record on a regular basis; A new album is due to be recorded soon, as yet untitled; See the band's live gigs schedule for current show dates, etc.
