Beginning seven years ago, as a weird post-improv duo (then named Laminate Reno who hated drummers because they thought ‘improv’ meant ‘wanking’), END/FIN/DEAD’s Don & Edel went in search of a drum machine to add to their tiny synth, bass & noise guitar lineup. Instead, they found a computer… and years later, after continental drifting and such,vEnd/Fin/Dead became a band again. So who’s who…?Don, the man behind the computers, electronics, bouzouki, and loads of weird noisemaking stuff has had multimedia work published all over the place including HotPress, The EV&A catalogue and many newspapers. Edel is a kick-ass photgrapher/bassist/harpist/noisemaker and synth guru. Jim plays saw and takes care of the visuals alongside Cousin Matt, on his vj controller of 80s arcade love (which he made himself) Tigerpigbee features on triangle, alongside occasional guests, such as Sà on melodica, harp, piano or harpsichord. They have had airplay on Phantom FM in Dublin, and Limerick’s 95FM, as well as several internet stations.Citing influences including trad, proper anarchist punk, weird country, IDM, modern minimalist classical, funeral music, folk music from all about the place, post rock, Big Black, Psychobilly and much more. Their first album (a concept album no less) is in the pipeline and we see big things ahead for this merry group of very talented people. As most acts do, their sound owes much to their influences, but with tastes as wide and diverse as this lot, they deliver a sound all of their own and for that very reason we at Digital Sole like it..a lot! Layers and layers of melody intertwine with huge pulsing bass lines and solid drum programming to give a sound thats hard to pigeon hole and definitely unique. Their name for the curious, is derived from the end of cartoons. (Mingincat, for the “Dead†bit).
To date they have supported such acts as: Corsano & Flaherty, Kaderfire, Cap Pas Cap, Lite, Steeple Remove, Jinx Lennon, Windings, *Mirakil Whip*, Dublin Guitar Quartet, They Came From The Stars, and Team Dead. For an act with such a terminal name, we feel this is certainly only a beginning and are another great addition to a rapidly growing music scene in our city by the Shannon. Nearly all sounds are catered for at present (with the possible exception of a decent night for those of a more soleful persuasion ) and that can only be commended. Its not long since everyone sat around whinging that their tastes were not catered for but a DIY ethos has finally taken hold and the future looks very bright. Don is the co-curator of Tigons&Livers, the live electronic aspect of Tigons&Ligers, which incorporates Tigons&Lecords indie record company. From digitalsole.net
