"...after seven years, the sex was good... but we're gonna try different positions now..."
After forming in Limerick in 1999, the band went through several line-up as well as name changes before they finally settled on the name Funbobby. A name that caught the attention of all and was drilled into the mind of all, with their constant gigging across Ireland.
Funbobby played mainly across their local scene and surrounding areas for years, as the band quickly gained a loyal following and respect amongst the Limerick crowd as one of the harder working bands in the city with their constant DIY releases and their energetic punk rock shows, they grabbed the attention of anyone, anywhere they went.
"....after seven years, we were one of the longest goin bands in limerick, and probably the longest running punk band in limerick. at the start in 1999 we struggled as a punk band in a city full of metal bands, but we persisted, and we did it oursleves. we released our own records, put on our own shows, we were some of the very few who put on all ages shows for the kids in limerick... and now seven years down the line, there is a healthy punk rock scene, kids releasing their own records, puttin on their own shows, starting up collectives, record labels... bringing bands form around the country to play in limerick... all of this was never seen before in limerick from teenagers and the younger crowd. we did it first, and we're proud of what limerick is becoming and has become and seeing what these kids can do... the future of the music scene in limerick is in good hands..."
(taken from the last funbobby newsletter sent out to their mailing list - Jun '06)
Funbobby played all over the country, in front of audiences both large and pitiful, in venues both big and small, selling endless amounts of records across Ireland. Having been on radio play on local, regional and national radio stations such as Live95FM and 2FM, Funbobby have managed to play such festivals as the infamous Noize Fest and the now reputable Hard Working Class Heroes Festival in Dublin, as well as playing with some of the best national and international acts such as Anti Product, 4ft Fingers, Turn, Cooper, Koala Attack, La Rocca, Deifenbaker, I Walk The Line, Broken, Mika Bomb, Feverdream, The Hitchers, Giveamanakick, We Should Be Dead, Roper, Decato, Barberskum, Mixtwitch, The Pennywhores, Hybrasil, The Fewer The Better, Splitters, Rest, Bunny, Mark O'Connor, But Me No Butts, Kidd Blunt, Penfold DM, and so god damn many more...
