James Bright - artist/producer

About Me

James Bright is a recording artist and producer from the North West of England. He works predominantly with the genres of electronica, downbeat and chillout, but also turns his hand to deep house and balearic. He has seen many releases over the years most recently of which are released under his own name, James Bright. His work has found interest, and general release on popular labels including React (the infamous Cafe Del Mar album series), Hed Kandi and Quango. Despite other commitments in the industry he is currently working on his solo album (release TBC).James Bright was one half of the highly successful collaboration Lux. They have appeared on many compilations for names such as Cafe Del Mar, Ministry of Sound, Hed Kandi, MCA and EMI. In addition they featured heavily on cover discs for music magazines including DJ and Muzik, not to mention countless TV programmes, adverts and websites worldwide. Two of the first James Bright productions were quickly released; Little Things appears on Hed Kandi's Es Vive/Base Bar compilation, and By Your Side was released on Siddharta Volume 3 (Various Artists) on the George V label. James is currently working behind the scenes on material with the talented vocalists Cathy Battistessa and Rachel Lloyd, and has some new material in the pipeline.Below is a selection of remixes and collaborations from James Bright:
Clear Blue Sky - Afterlife (Speck of Gold)
Blockhead - Blockhead (Cafe Mambo Evissa 2003)
Bismi - IO (Cafe Nirvana)
Chilli Squid - Pete Gooding and James Bright (Cafe Mambo 2004)

and under the guise of Lux:
I'll Be Waiting - Full Intention featuring Shena (Rulin 017)
Haja O Que Houver - Madredeus (Electronica)

Lux also released the highly acclaimed album, Northern Lights (on the Tundra label), described by one reviewer as 'doing much to restore the credibility of a sound that has been buggered senselessly by the advertising industry'.
Lux - Northern Lights (Amazon review):
Five years in the making Northern Lights is 11 laid-back (or just plain relaxed) afternoons rolled into one album. The more on the ball amongst you may have noticed that all tracks on the album are named after different types of cannabis. Rumor has it that each track was written and recorded whilst sampling said herbs and reflects the moods of the writers at the time so is also a true smokers delight. Tying all this together the album also includes poignant sleeve notes from Howard Marks aka Mr Nice (the most celebrated purveyor of cannabis ever) and his musings on the effects the weed has on the way we listen to music.
More recently James Bright as a solo artist has released:
James Bright featuring Rachel Lloyd: Little things (Hed Kandi)
James Bright featuring Rachel Lloyd: By your side (George V)
James Bright: Circles (Quango)

Aside from production James Bright is also a DJ, having venues such as Cafe Mambo (Ibiza) and Amsterdam's Supper Club on his resumé, as well as many plays around the UK.
