i'm very passionate about movies and love so many different types for so many different reasons. i always find myself buying dvd's of obscure things -- mostly things i saw when growing up that have a sense of nostalgia for me. but, i pretty much love it all: drama, comedy, action, horror, classics, silent films, foreign films, certain documentaries. seriously, it would take forever to list movies i love...but i'll give you my favorite movie of all time -- Charlie Chaplin's "City Lights" (1931)
i try not to watch the idiot box too much. i prefer being out in the world and experiencing all the craziness life has to offer, and believe me, my life can be crazy these days! HOWEVER, when i do watch TV, i like watching stuff like classic sitcoms from the 80's, or my absolute favorite, the Food TV Network. i can't help it, i love to cook, and cuisine is a definite artform to me, so at least watching that, i learn something. then again, i wouldn't get rid of my DVD's of What's Happenin', Good Times, the Sid & Marty Krofft Superstars, and cheesy Rick Springfield drivel!
this is a very personal section, as i mostly read books on philosophy and things in the self-help vein to open my mind and expand my horizons to make me a better human being. so, let's just leave it at "i read" :-)
although, as of 11.20.06, this is the current book that i am reading...
...Charlie Chaplin, William S. Burroughs, Jean-Michel Basquiat, my AMAZING parents, and my very own private ambassador of all things warm & fuzzy, "Gidget"... :-)
"It is important to me that a work of art be constantly elusive, mean many different things to many different people. My work is always on its way between one point and another. What I care most about is its living possibilities.
The only defense against being trapped in someone's idea of your intention is to keep changing your field and work very hard, so that the fact of your creation, which will always be the most important thing, always overshadows its interpretation."
- Claes Oldenburg, 1961
