"Crashing Waves & Tidal Forces"
The art show that should have never been. Thats what it should be. The show that will open on June 2nd, 2007 will not only herald my return as an artist after a more than two year absence on the art front but it also is a show that illustrates the horror, sorrow, grief, love, compassion, and healing that all of my family has had to endure after the death of our baby Alex. The show is a thematic show that will incorporate large paintings, drawings, mixed media, and conceptual art works which all will walk each and every viewer through our journey. It is an art show that I wish that I would have never had to do. The art will speak of things that I just cannot express with mere words. It is a show that you will not want to miss. Like I tell all my friends, there is a wave coming....... ~ d

"Portrait of Yoko Ono" by davmo
This is one of several portraits of Yoko Ono that I did in 1994. This portrait is a mixed media piece that I used oil stick, tar, cellophane tape, varnish, paper, and plastic as the materials.
Me
I am an American self taught Artist, Painter. I was born 1960 in Norfolk Virginia. I moved from Virginia and lived with my Grand-parents in Pensacola Florida from 1964-1975. After moving from Florida I lived in Virginia Beach, Virginia from 1975 - 1998. I lived in Norfolk from 1998-2005.
In January 2005 I moved back to Virginia Beach where I currently reside with my wife and two sons. Some of my other interests include Volkswagens, Downhill Slalom Skateboarding, and Surfing. I am an avid Kneeboard Surfer and I have been surfing the East Coast since 1975.
I began painting in 1994 at the age of 34. My art includes Paintings, Drawings, Sculptures, and Fluxus creations that can be found in private and corporate collections in the UK, Ireland, Germany, Belgium, France, Italy, Portugal, Australia, Canada, Japan, and in the U.S.A. from San Francisco to New York City and hundreds of other cities.
About My Art
I create and sell original contemporary art works on paper, wood, and stretched canvases. Some of my work is abstract in nature but some of my work can be categorized as having a tendency towards realism. Much of my work is accented with a direction towards anti art, graffiti, and what I refer to as "decomposition". Although some of my work may seem simple I do base all of my art with solid principles of design and composition. Even though my work is constructed with basic principles of design I still strive to connect my work on a primitive unconscious level that deals with a wide range of emotions, thoughts, or ideas. I like art that makes you think, but I also like art that makes you feel. That is something that I strive for in my work.
Influences
When viewing my art you may see different influences in my work. There are many artists whose work have had some influence in my artistic journey. Over the years I read many art history books and visited many Galleries and Museums and viewed both classic paintings by acclaimed artists to viewing art by local artists where I live. This process went on for years. During this time I would do some small drawings, collages, and tried painting but without much result. Many of these early drawings I sold on Ebay or I gave to close friends. It wasn't until 1994 at the age of 34 that I would realize that art would be a real part of my life rather than myself just being a viewer. Some influences : Franz Kline, Ray Johnson, Jonathan Borofsky, Robert Raushenburg, Andy Warhol, Willem de Kooning, Ida Applebroog, Marcel Duchamp, David Wojnarowicz, Anslem Kiefer, Jean Michel-Basquiat, Yoko Ono, Joseph Beuys, Amy Gerhauser, Louise Lowenthal, all the Fluxus Artists, Folk Artists, all the Dadaist Artists, Grafitti Artists, Mother Nature in how she changes, ages, destroys, and rebirths all things with time. Nothing escapes.
Other influences are music, pop culture, and a load of crap that other people have tried to give me in my life expecting me to go through life carrying their shit on my shoulders like a pack mule so to speak. Good thing I realized and understood that and I decided to opt for something else. Change. Everything.

No Art For Two Years
I have had to update this section because more time has passed by than I have expected. For the past two years I haven't done any art. We were in the process of moving from Norfolk to Virginia Beach and I was getting the new house ready. We were getting ready for the arrival of our new baby Alex who was on the way but due to doctor's malpractice Alex died. After that I did not want to do anything. For more than a year I have not painted anything and I have not sold any art. There are no artworks by me during the whole year of 2005. I guess you can say that I have been in mourning and I have been trying to do many things to honor the life and death of our son Alex who died on April 14th 2005.
I have recently completed a series of wood-cut prints on 140 pound arches paper. The series commemorates my friend artist Crispin Webb who passed away in November 2006. Crispin had tried back in April of 2006 to help me get back to doing art. He even suggested that we should do a collaborative art project together. He also sent me a funky picture of himself that he thought could be a piece of art. Little did I know that I would do an art project with him. The only thing I didn't bargain for was me being here and he would be gone. I just completed the prints and its a small run of twenty five prints on white 140 pound arches paper. If you might be interested in one of the prints just send me a message and I will get back to you. The below image is of a artist proof where I double printed the image. The prints that are available are single image on white paper.

Cool people.
I am also looking forward to meeting and seeing so many of
my friends and new friends all together at my upcoming art
show "Crashing Waves & Tidal Forces" this coming June 2nd.
There is going to be so many great things that will happen
on that night and I cannot wait for it to happen. Its going
to be very exciting.
This is a video I found on Youtube. Someone made this video
cruising down Atlantic Avenue which is located at the ocean
front in Virginia Beach the city I live it. I have traveled
down this very street probably a million times. I like this
video and you can hear on the radio in the car playing the
song called "Mad World". The video was made in 1986.
..
David Bowie, Brian Eno, Pink Floyd, 1970s music. 1970s R and B. Classic Rock. 1980s new wave. Alternative. Stuff that might not be considered music. I like hearing new music too.
While we are on the topic of music one thing that I would like to do is create the artwork for cd covers for bands, singers, musicians, etc. I think that this would be a pretty cool creative outlet for me. I think that I could create you a cool cd cover artwork. Anyone interested in possibly having me work with them on such a project just drop me a message. We can discuss what you are looking for and I am sure that I could help you have a very unique original artwork that would look great on your cd cover.
Any movie that doesn't have that crazy Tom Cruise in it.
A few of my favorite movies are: "Bladerunner", "Pi", "Forrest Gump", "Joe Dirt", "Frida", "Max", "Basquiat", "The Man Who Fell To Earth". I also really enjoyed the movie "Children Of Men" which I highly recommend.
The only show that I watch on TV is "Lost". The rest of the shows that are on TV can go in the trash can.
