About Me

Marley Greiner aka Mad Dog Marley aka Bastardette (speaking in the 3rd person) is the co-founder and executive chair of Bastard Nation: the Adoptee Rights Organization . BN is the largest adoptee civil rights organization in North America. Bastard Nation is dedicated to the recognition of the full human and civil rights of adult adoptees. It advocates the opening to adoptees, upon request at age of majority, those government documents which pertain to the adoptee's historical genetic, and legal identity, including the unaltered birth certificate and adoption decree.
Adoptee and Identity Rights: Since its founding in 1997 BN has been responsible for the restoration of the right of adoptees to access their original birth certificates in Oregon (through the ballot initiative) and Alabama (through legislation.) In 2005 it was instrumental in the passage of legislation in New Hampshire which restored birth certificate access in that state. Unfortunately, BN also has to spend much of its time killing bad deformist legislation in numerous states where so-called activists will take whatever crumbs the adoption industry throws at them to shut them up. Bastard Nation does not compromise: it does not accept disclosure and contact vetoes, white-outs, mandatory registeries, or mandatory confidential intermediary systems. Bastard Nation leaves no one behind!
Baby Dumping: Bastard Nation was the first national organization to oppose baby dump laws (Safe Haven laws) which allow parents to anonymously and legally abandon newborns with no questions asked. Since then the American Adoption Congress, Concerned United Birth Parents, Origins-USA, Ethica, and numerous other national and local adoption reform organizations have joined in the war against legal dumping. BN believes that it is no coincidence that baby dumps law appeared on the national scene just as adoptee civil rights to records and identity were being restored. Marley, in particular, has been active in the anti-dump movement and publishes a weekly newsletter, Baby Dump News, which goes to scholars, politicians, policy makers and others interested in adoption industry shenighans. If you'd like to receive a copy drop her a line here.
Entries from Marley's Daily Bastardette blog are posted here. The official Bastard Nation MySpace site is at www.myspace/com/bnadopteerights
Russia: When not tangled up in red tape, Marley lives in St. Petersburg, Russia. (Go to "videos" for some Russian music videos.) Since the age of 10 Marley felt that Russia was her second home. It probably has something to do with adoption and disconnection--or so she's been told. She began visiting the Former Soviet Union in 1988 and has been back 6 more times. In 1991 she returned ostensibly to study Russian at "Plekhanova", but didn't get very far being language impaired. She did, however, hook up with an incredible group of people, including the beautiful Sveta who every man wore kick-me sign for, the artist Pasha Losev, and, of course, Soier. Some older pictures of them and others, including some band shots, are posted in the "pictures" page and new ones will go up soon. Three of Marley's tats were done by the drummer Valarei Truchan. Anybody know what happened to him?
Marley experienced the firebombing at Plekhanova in June 1991, reportedly over the Hertzen Institute's reluctance to pay remodeling contractors; the first "Gay and Lesbian Symposium" in Petersburg, and the August coup (pictures here.) In 1992 she returned to Russia to get married, but it didn't happen. Probably for the best. She likes to attended funerals of strangers at the Lavra. Besides living in Plekhanova, Marley has lived in Kompositorov, Vetranov, and Ul.Zagorodny right around the corner from Rasputin's flat, which was, last time she was there, appropriately, a vodka shop. Reportedly there is a new flat awaiting her, but she's not sure where.Marley has also visited Georgia, Ukraine, Azerbaijan, and Estonia. She avoids Moscow. St. Petersburg is the rockin'ist city in the world.
Columbus Free Press: Marley is also a political reporter for the Columbus Free Press and her work there and elsewhere can be found on Theoconia Previous to covering the theocon scene, she was a general assignment reporter, covered theatre, and with Elizabeth Ann James wrote a poetry column. She has interviewed Allen Ginsberg, Julie Harris, Ann Doran, Flip Benham, Ron Luce, David Barton, and Coach Dave Daubenmire. Before adoption overcame her life she was a well-known and popular poet in Columbus. One year she even made $500 writing and performing.
Marley holds a BA in English and Political Science from Malone College and a MA in American History from the Ohio State University. She is currently an ABD in American History from OSU, with an emphasis in organized crime, women's history, and film history. She would complete the Ph.D.if the Axis of Adoption Evil would just crawl under the rock from whence it came from. Her dissertation is tentatively titled: Americanism, Entrepreneurial Vice, and Community: Organized Crime in Canton, Ohio,. .
