Shannon Scott

Shannon Scott is a vocalist, pianist and composer from Red Deer, AB. She graduated from Capilano College's Bachelor of Music program with a major in Jazz Voice and a minor in piano in 2006; she has since focussed on original projects and her work as a music educator. In her band Rune, this six-piece group blends jazz harmony with the roots of a diverse musical past, and finds the character of folk meets funk, acoustic meets electric. The sounds of auxiliary instruments supplement the compositions' nature that blurs the lines between genres, while the lyrics spin stories that are poetically heartfelt. Inspired by a variety of artists, this sextet experiments liberally with expression of sound, while retaining an appreciation for connecting with the listener.In her jazz group the Shannon Scott Quintet, Scott plays frequently around Greater Vancouver. Blending original takes on standards with her unique breed of jazz composition, Scott's ear for melody unifies her writing and improvisation. Drawing from songwriters and poets that range from Wayne Shorter to Joni Mitchell, her compositions are thoughtful, earnest, and imaginative. Scott also makes her mark as a lyricist, writing verse to arrangements of instrumental melodies of a variety of genres.
