After a two-year hiatus from music, several jungle adventures
and voyages at sea, Terra Grimard is releasing her first full-length
album. Having recorded 3 EP’s in the past and trekked on 2
cross-Canada tours, this release comes with no comparison to
her earlier work. This time the recording is hand-crafted in her
home recording studio in East Vancouver and her writing is
a cohesive statement on self-discovery and personal evolution.
“I woke up one day and decided it was time to record a new
album. I made up my mind to do as much as I could DIY style.â€
Although Terra has a Bachelor of Music in Jazz Studies, she is
quick to point out that crooning jazz standards is not where her
heart is. “I started songwriting when I was twelve and to this
day that is what I love most. Instinctively, I wrote from a
place of feel. I have been â€educatedâ€on theory and technique,
I still write from a place of feel, and that’s how I approach
singing as well.â€
Having heard the advice ‘don’t quite your day job’ countless
times, Terra works on a private yacht when she’s not making
music. Sailing the BC coast and her love for the ocean has
influenced many of the tracks on her upcoming album, “I am
inspired by the water and the beauty of BC.â€
A warm and confident performer, Terra plays keyboards and is
joined by guitarist Alvaro Rojas (A Ghost to Kill), drummer Dan
Gaucher (Fond of Tigers) and bassist Josh Cole (October Trio).
Currently in the final stages of recording, Terra is planning her
release tour for November 2009.
