Catch Me Live M-F 9am-11am E., and again Noon-3pm E.
CLICK HERE to listen to me on US1Radio. The Official Radio Station of the Florida Keys....Thanks[;0) ....When I was 12 I knew I wanted to be a Radio DJ. After I graduated, I started knocking on station doors until someone finally gave me a job. I immediately started at a country station in Ft. Smith Arkansas, working 7 days a week midnight to 6am. It sucked. I moved to another country station in Hot Springs AR, on the midday shift. for some reason it was not what I had expected. I was disenchanted with Radio. So I ran away and joined the Navy. Now I live in the Fl. keys. One day I saw an ad in the paper that said "Radio Personality Wanted, must be able to show up on time." I thought Hey I can do that. So...Here I Am.
I'd like to meet:
I'D LIKE TO MEET: Funny people with heart, Smart intellectuals with vision, Bunny lovers, Artistic people with passion, Other radio personalities, Gypsys, and weird people with strange talents (nothing gross)LOL
The Slide Show Above is of the Marathon Offshore Grand Prix from Sun May 18th. US1Radio was the exclusive station to hear the live broadcast. Boats travel in excess of 150 MPH. The course took them directly under the 7-Mile Bridge and my feet. What a thrill to feel the vibration and hear the thunder of the gas guzzling boats. The Super Vs and the Super Cats are actually burning Jet Fuel. I have no idea who won, but who cares, they looked Fabulous!!I quit smoking April 30th. This song will remind me of the demon that was wrapped around my heart and lungs. Squeezing off my oxygen and blackening my lungs, and my heart.....
Music:
When it comes to MUSIC...I like everything between opera and hip-hop. But not much opera or hip-hop. I suppose Standards and Dance are my favorites. I enjoy the study of music, it's history, it's origin, I appreciate fine vocals and orchestration, I also like electronically created music, it is "Now" and "The Future". What I really like is a beautiful, flowing, driving arrangements that combine elements of the old with the new. As a DJ I love to put songs together to weave a tale.
Movies:
GOTTA LOVE NETFLIX[:o)Most recently I watched:"Across the Universe" Is a musical based on music from the Beatles. It takes us from Liverpool to the United States and right into the Vietnam War. It gives a finite point to a period of time that still has not cleaned up all of the dust. Bono plays an interesting role in this psychotropic film. His best line is..."We're navigators, we're aviators, eatin' taters, masturbatin' alligators, bombardiers, we got no fears, won't shed no tears, we're pushin' the frontiers of transcendental perception."Sweeney Todd was directed by Tim Burton and stars Johnny Depp and Helena Bonham Carter. This musical is bizar and dark, as most of Tim Burton's work is. Sweeney Todd has lost everything to a maniacal judge. After 15 years of being wrongly imprisoned he exacts his revenge while Ms. Lovett makes meat pies of his victims."Nothings going to harm you, not while I'm around."
I saw this in the theatre and thought it was charming and fun. The movie has a "Swiss Family Robinson" feel about it. A young girl Nim and her father live of a small and beatiful little island. Nim loves to read and her favorite character is "Alex Rover" he is quite the hero. When Nim and her father are seperated Nim e-mails Alex that she needs him. Alex Rover is actually Alexis Rover, and rarely leaves her house. This movie is about overcoming your fears. "Be the hero of you own life story."The Mist is a good old-fashioned monster story. A mist has brought in something that is killing people. A large group of people seek shelter in a grocery store. As fear grows the people become as scarey as the monsters in the mist."Sure, as long as the machines are working and you can dial 911. But you take those things away, you throw people in the dark, you scare the shit out of them - no more rules."
Zathura is a sequal of Jumanji. Two squabbeling brothers find an old board game, and when they start to play, they end up in outer space. It was a fun little film."Zathura. Attention space adventurers, Zathura awaits. Do you have what it takes to navigate the galaxy? It's not for the faint of heart, for once you embark upon your journey there's no turning back until Zathura's reached.""Beowulf" Rober Zemeckis directs this half CGI half human version of the classic 6th century,Scandinavian hero. Anthony Hopkins plays King Hrothgar, I loved him when he drank to much and spoke his mind. Angelina Jolie's character was spooky. This movie was pretty good. "The sea is my mother! She would never take me back to her murky womb!"
"Orgasmo" Starring Trey Parker is frikin' funny. Joe Young is a Mormon in Hollywood that is trying to raise enough money to pay for his wedding in the Mormon Tabernacle. He ends up playing a porn super hero, whose ray gun will make his enemies have a spontaneous orgasm.
"Well, it exploits men by exploiting women."
"House of Flying Daggers" a foreign film that brings martial arts and dancing into a wonderful choreography. The story is rich and full of depth. The costuming is stunning. Rent this one, it's really good. "Do not pull this dagger out. I'm sending you back to keep spying for us. You will be more convincing with a dagger in your back."The Movie that has Moved me more than any other is "Schindler's List". "Amadeus" was great. "Court Jester" with Danny Kay had me laughing so hard I nearly wet my pants. ~"They'll Never Out Fox the Fox"~ LOL!!!I love Disney Cartoons. My favorite is "Robin Hood"...
Television:
DVR SET TO RECORD:Many things on the History chanel,My Name Is Earl, Jericho, Lost, Dexter. I probably watch to much news.
Books:
I JUST READ:"Born Standing Up by Steve Martin
I love love love Steve Martin. When I saw "The Jerk" and "Roxanne" I felt that Steve was warm and charming, intelligent and a little shy, after reading his book I am sure of all those things. Steve, you could say is a bi-product of Disney. This book covers his career as a stand-up comic. I highly reccomend this book."Duma Key" By Stephen King.I've been reading Stephen King since I was a little kid. I started with "The Stand" next came "The Gunslinger Series" which he finally wrapped up. Duma Key is set along the Florida Gulf Coast. Ed Fremantle has been in an accident that causes brain damage and the loss of his right arm. Also the loss of his wife. To try and create a new life Ed moves to Duma Key and becomes an overnight success as an artist, who's inspiration is...a gift/curse of the island itself. I love the supernatural aspect of this book. Sure it takes awhile to get to the really juicy stuff, but once you get there, I dare you to put the book down."Treasure Of Khan"This is a Dirk Pitt novel. Dirk (as always) is dashing and daring and a man of international intrigue!!! Grrrr!! I would Sooooo do him! (Not that he would do me, I'm just sayin') Anyway...This time Dirk is scouring the bad-lands of Inner Mongolia as earthquakes are striking the globe's major oil deposits. As always Dirk and his trusted friend Giordino save the world.Clive Cussler never disappoints me with his ability at writing adventure.BOOKS I RECOMMEND:
.."Good Omens: The Nice and Accurate Prophecies of Agnes Nutter, Witch" was a really great book about the Apocolypse. All of the characters are in place as the 4 horsemen prepare for the great battle, however the antichrist is missing and when he is discovered; we learn that he was switched at birth, and his upbringing has been deviated from the master plan. Tongue in cheek funny.
"CHARLOTTE'S STORY" by Charlotte Arpin/Niedhuak
First Printed in 1973, this book can be
picked up at any Walgreens in the keys.
Charlotte and her husband are offered a
home on Elliot Key, during 1934-35, the
way they earn a living, deal with rum
runners, and live off of the treasures
that the ocean provides is charming, funny,
and informative. This should be required
reading for anyone living in the FL
keys...
adopt your own virtual pet!Another "KEYS MUST READ" is - "Storm Of The Century" The Labor Day Hurricane of 1935. By, Willie Drye (ironically). This book was published by "National Geographic", and made into a feature presentation on the "History Channel". 200 mile-an-hour winds and a 20ft high storm surge of raging water hit Lower Matecumbe Key, a base camp of tar colth tents was there housing over 400 WWI Veterans. The tale delves into the lives of Fl.Keys residents. The book frighteningly recounts the days leading up to, the horrifying day of the storm and the aftermath. It's not Always Paradise...
Heroes:
Mom, Dad, Justin and Jessica, and many members of my charming, talented, and smart family. Including all 36 of my first cousins (well most of them). I miss the days of us all singing together at Grandma and Grandpa Shiflett's House after Sunday dinner. I aspire
to be more like Dolly Parton,Oprah Whinfrey, Eleanore Roosevelt. I admire Bill and Hillary Clinton.
