AUBURN ROAD

Hip Hop / Funk / Reggae / Broken Beat

About Me

Auburn Sound System aka Auburn Road is the working name of Melbourne duo, Mark Spies & Eric Ryan. Both have been immersed in the local beat scene for the past 5 years as MC Direkt and DJ Obliveus, respectively. Gaining some prominence with their monthly party, Beats Working, the two have now put their main focus on what they love doing the most...making music.Having thrown more breaks, funk, hiphop and drum'n'bass parties than they can remember, the two decided that 2006 would be the year that they would focus more of their time and energy on the songs that they've been writing since 2001. Rather than think of themselves as a band, the two wish to take the 'sound system' ethos of the past and perform live with musicians, while also mixing it up with DJ sets. Taking over an entire venue to handle all facets of the music throughout the night is their eventual goal. After a short hiatus, Direkt has got back into the studio to do what he does best: Check out the 2007 remix of longtime track, Organ Donor, a reggae inspired, summertime hiphop jam that really shows where the two would like to head with this project.
