Underground

40th and Spruce, Under the COPA

About Me

Located in the heart of University City, the Underground is a basement bar/performance area below the Copa at 40th and Spruce. The entrance is on the 40th Street side. In previous lives the Underground was known as the Jumping Bean Acoustic Cafe, the O Lounge, and the 40th Street Underground, among many other incarnations. The max capacity is 110.
The stage can hold a 4 piece band w/ a small drum kit, although the most we've had is a 6 piece (singer sat in front of the stage). 1-3 is most comfortable.
The Underground is open Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday nights and features all original music ranging from folk music, aggro metal, punk rock, rock and roll, hip hop, overly literate power pop, and everything in between.
All SHOWS ARE 21+, UNLESS NOTED ON THE SCHEDULE.
Right now our crowd is VERY band driven. Walk-ins have become more frequent.
WE DO NOT ALLOW SMOKING. We serve no food, although you can order from upstairs and the waitress will bring it down.
Right now there is no website - everything is run off this myspace page.
To sign up for the e-mailing list, email [email protected]. If you want to use Mapquest - put in the address as: S. 40th St. and Spruce St., Philadelphia, PA 19104
