Evolution makes me Happy...

About Me

This was the second song of my first proper concert - you can kind of tell that I'm still getting used to it.I never really had any idea how good hip hop could feel as a form of expression. Then one night while I was in Leeds in late 2003, after recently having an epiphany of sorts, the words 'Beguiling Freestyling' floated into my head. A few more rhymes followed, and before long there were too many to hold in my mind, so I wrote them down. Line after line appeared on the page, and all sorts of shit started coming out. All my frustrations with the stupidity of people and the world, my anger at our cultures material obsession, our neglect of the planet, the detrimental effects of organised religion, everything just poured onto the page. I was rather gob smacked. It seemed in some way so much more succinct and powerful and eloquent than prose.I was surprised, because Im not normally an aggressive person in the slightest (nor am I a poet), and yet on the page in front of me was a righteous rage, that I actually quite enjoyed engaging with. It was semi bizarre, because while I was mocking the arrogant, misogynistic, bling obsessed dominant paradigm, I got to kind of become it too. I raise the points, and then open the floor to challengers to step up. I didn't even know if my tongue was in cheek or not. It was probably the most therapeutic thing I've ever done.A little further down the track and Ive now finally managed to produce a CD - some tracks were recorded at my friend Byron's house, some in Secluded Studios - owned by my friends Joel and Brad (www.seclusion.com.au) It's clearly an amateur job, but I'm far more concerned with the message than the professionalism. I'm certain its not the best I can do, but its what we've got for the time being. At this stage theyre just a capella, which is obviously how I wrote them, and which I think lends them a particular kind of force, in simplicity. Not to mention the individuality factor. I know that its pretty different to anything thats out there right now, but in my opinion that works in its favour. I've experimented with rhyming over different backing tracks and found one which I think works quite well by those fine Austrian beat makers Kruder and Dorfmeister, which is the one you're probably listening to. If anyone has any beats or whatever that they think might be suitable, please drop me a line.Latley my friend Iain (www.myspace.com/theeconomy) has been working on making music to rhyme over aswell. It's still in the early stages at this point, but it's looking very promising. The man is a veritable musical genius.I'm not entirely sure what I plan on doing with all this, but I guess the first step is exposure, which is where were at right now. I'm very, very tired of watching other people do this for a living. By the end of the year I'm aiming to have a company up and running to release various creative projects - Freelance Productions. More detail shall be forthcoming at a later date. I want to perform, and I want to get the message out there.'Rhymes' is a call for a new era in hip hop, and a new era in human development. Don't just listen.

This was the only song i did at my concert with music (thankyou Kruder and Dorfmiester) - It was at the end so i'm feeling quite a lot more comfortable with everything." border=0

Band Members: Few acts challenge their audience so directly as Daniel Morrison. Reviving the lost art of Spoken Word Hip Hop (and pretty well for a white kid), he strips his performance back to the bones of his words, leaving a message amplified by it..s simplicity .. a message born out of frustration at the idiocy of the world, but ultimately a message of hope in the power of Compassion and Joy. He deftly ridicules the stupidity that plagues the rap scene (and the rest of the world) in the form of consumerism and aggression, and provides the alternative of socially conscious lyrics, strengthened by the power of rhyme. He articulates the problems our world is faced with (and, for a change, their solutions) in a way that is engaging, challenging, but most importantly, entertaining. It is an act not to be missed. If Bill Hicks could rhyme, or Saul Williams didn..t take himself so seriously, or Eminem wasn..t quite such a nut case, they might sound like Daniel Morrison.
