What happened in 2007? Boris Yeltsin died, Prince Harry was kidnapped and executed during military service in Iraq, and The Who Boys released their third Mashup album, ‘The Good, The Bad and The Who Boys’.
In 2004 they brought you the legendary ‘Tales of Townsend and Wilson’. Then, in 2005 they brought you the ground-breaking ‘For Mash Get Smashed’. And now, in 2007 AD, they bring you
‘The Good, The Bad and The Who Boys’.
And Good Lord, this is all without mentioning their original albums!
What’s it all about, Alfie?
Alfie: “There is no point in describing this. All you can do is turn the lights off, put your headphones on, pour a glass of the finest wine, press PLAY, lean back, close your eyes and listen. Then you will know. The Who Boys are not a band, they are a state of mind. If you don’t get it now, you never will. As Syd Barrett said to Madonna: 'You’ll never know, baby, you’ll never know.'â€
This 24 track album represents arguably their finest Mashup work to date.

TALES OF TOWNSHEND & WILSON (2004)
THE WHO MEET THE BEACH BOYS in a mash-up extravaganza, copulate and give birth to The Who Boys, the enfants-terribles of mash-up.
The Who and The Beach Boys sliced up and cooked on a griddle of drum n bass, dub and hard electronic rhythm. A cultural and musical hybrid, a quantum leap across four decades, as the analogue sounds of The Who and The Beach Boys come back across time and space, enter a computer hard drive, are processed into new tracks, new songs, new phrases, and are thrown back out into virtual space...
The Who Boys, Dubby Dick Turpins of the internet highway, robbing samples from the rich and complacent major labels, and giving the proceeds back to the poor and hip, needy and worthy. The Who Boys, online, on time, in time, and through time for all time, give you the story of Pete Townsend and Brian Wilson as you never heard it before... The Who meet The Beach Boys, and give birth to a groove monster, The Who Boys, modern, beyond mash-up, pure deranged genius...
The Who Boys, The Who Boys, The Who Boys...

In 2005 a project was started featuring guest collaborators, artists, poets and performers we had met at The Foundry, a bar and gallery in East London, where The Who Boys had performed regularly for a long time.
The change in the UK licensing laws in 2005 meant that the Who Boys and these other performers would no longer be able to perform live there anymore, as the venue was not allowed to have anything that constituted a live performance without first applying for an entertainment license. It was the end of an era.
The project was originally to be called 'Lost and Foundry', to commemorate this loss and capture the spirit of the characters and performers on this album, but then Rathmell, who is bloody-minded, fell out with one of the owners. Also we worried that no one would know what The Foundry is outside of East London anyway, so as a title it would make no sense to anybody else in the world. Instead we decided to call it the Quite Album. Why? Because it's quite long, there are quite a lot of quite short tracks, there are quite a lot of participants and it's quite a departure for us in terms of style and approach. It's also quite bloody good, cunt.
Inspired by The Commercial Album by The Residents, we wanted to make a collection of very short tracks where we reduced songwriting to its basic elements, working fast and often improvising. After years of spending ages on tracks, agonising over every detail, we wanted to bring more spontaneous creativity back into it and maybe learn something about songwriting in the process, or indeed what a song can be. And have some bloody FUN, instead of being precious and thinking too much.
So welcome to The Quite Album - a dark, experimental journey through our culture. Quite.
