About Me

Welcome to my space! What follows is an informal biography written on a lazy (and surprisingly sunny) April afternoon in London. To read the 'official' biog just log on www.davidesanna.com. I'm a guitarist, singer/songwriter born and raised in Sardinia, a piece of paradise situated somewhere between Italy, France, Spain and North Africa. These days I spend most of my time in London (UK). My main tool is the acoustic guitar, although in my little studio you would find Gibson, Fender, Spanish and Jazz guitars, as well as all sorts of strange instruments from around the world. The songs I write are influenced by the stories, the dreams and the sounds of the Mediterranean world, as well as traditional (and more recent) Anglo/American music ...and beyond! Somewhere in between these cultures is my territory. I strongly believe that it's possible to make music that can be influenced by different styles without compromising its identity.Since the early Ninenties I've been constantly performing live. In recent years I've toured Europe, the US, Australia and New Zealand. Being mainly a solo performer allows me to pack it up and go.In 2004 I released my first album called "Beyond...", which was well received and was airplayed by several radio stations across 3 continents. It was promoted with a world tour and several TV and Radio appearances. For more details and updates please check www.davidesanna.comMy debut album "Beyond..." is available from CD Baby: http://cdbaby.com/cd/davidesannaI edited my profile with Thomas' Myspace Editor V4.4

Band Members: I am mostly a solo performer these days. However, sometimes I'm joined by Mr Claudio Corona an accordion and piano, a second guitarist and/or a double bass player. When I'm recording the line up can be more eclectic, depending on the songs.
Influences: Mine is a musical family. My dad and my 2 brothers would all play an instrument, and my sister was a good classical dancer. My mum's role was to inspire and to encourage ...and to shout to turn that damn music down when I'd get carried away. My first tool was the cheapest Spanish guitar. Two years later I got an early Japanese Strat (that I still own and play with glee). Dad loved to play guitar in the Mediterranean moonlight. HIs repertoire were Spanish, Italian and Mexican songs. My brother Alessio learnt Bach's Toccata and Fugue by ear on the organ while big brother Fulvio played Spanish classics before becoming the Sardinian answer to Eric Clapton (when it comes to playing the Blues Fulvio Sanna still rules!) Sure enough I ended up picking up an instrument and slowly finding my voice. No one told me that, being left-handed, I should have played the other way round. When at last they did it was too late as I already had 3 songs in my repertoire. Part of my style comes from that original sin. In those early days I was listening to Folk/Rock as well as Pop and World music (particularly Arab music on some Algerian AM radio station) thinking that all those genres somehow weren't that different and could easily live together and be naturally merged to create new sounds. That is still my belief! That approach shaped my music.Ok, you want nemes. Here they are: Dino Sanna, Fulvio Sanna, Alessio Sanna, Bob Dylan, Richard Thompson, Mark Knopfler, David Attenborough, Tiziano Terzani, Ry Cooder, RaiStereoNotte, Bucky Baxter, Inti-Illimani, Ani Di Franco ...and many fellow musicians that I've played with in the last 20 years who enlightened me with tips, words, notes and silences, some of which you'll find in my Friend Space.
