Tha Truth always knew that music was for him. Coming to the UK at the age of nine from Kenya in the hope of a better life, his family moved around before finally settling in the city of Brighton on the south coast. An artistically inclined child he taught himself to play the guitar at 15 and soon fell in love with the idea of creating his own music. However the pull of faster money for a working class Truth was too much and after leaving school at sixteen he fell quickly into a life of hustling on the streets. He soon made enough money to build his own studio in his bedroom but with more and more friends being hurt or going to jail he decided that he wanted to make music his main priority.
Things changed for the better when he accidently met ‘Harmony’ an up and coming ‘super producer’ from London. A hip-hop sound that was atmospheric and hard was soon being created. Tha Truths influence grew from rap music pioneers like Dr Dre, Jay-Z , Nas, Dmx , and Mobb Deep.
Tha Truth decided to relocate to North London where there was more chance of success for the aspiring rapper/producer. Living in the studio was now all he knew spending hours and hours making beats next door to Harmony who took him under his wing and started him off working in his studio. Through this he was able to further his knowledge of engineering and helped mix such records as Bronz n Blaks ‘In Tha ghetto’ and Jamelias ‘Something about u’.
He quickly developed a sound and content which is not just real but describes life in the streets and the industry combining punch lines, flows and stories with the fluidity of the greats but with the swagger of the freshest rappers to – date. Versatile from time spent with R&B king Harmony he is able to feature on up – tempo club bangers such as (Jamelia – ‘Something about you’, Kelly Rowland ‘Put It in’) and has been praised by the likes of R&B star Lloyd for his smooth delivery. At the same time being street enough to gain credit from ghetto superstars Mobb Deep who supplied Truth with the intro to his first mixtape ‘Tru Stories’ after a chance 10 minute Camden meeting.
Currently Tha Truth is working on his album with Blackout ENT an alliance of five super talented producers from London and it is clear that we have not seen anything yet. Aspiring to be the best in the industry despite all odds, and using every experience as a opportunity to make great music, the kind that can be played alongside the Jayz’s of this world, Tha Truth continuously has the frame of mind ‘that as he learns, he will teach’.
