Rewind to 2002 and Metropolis founders Prophecy and Mark OD joined forces and began putting together plans for a new drum and bass night in Manchester, England. Once the venue had been secured - the legendary Industry nee Paradise Factory on Princess Street - they booked the artists and from the word go, they put the promotion out on the streets with military precision.The first night is already the stuff of legend, an event where people proudly say they were there; some even claim they attended when they weren’t! What is certain is that 1000 people danced until the early hours with an atmosphere that threatened to take the roof off the club and this set the standard for the night ever since. Wild parties, incendiary atmospheres and a friendly welcome are three things you can always guarantee at Metropolis. Metropolis survived the closure of Industry and the subsequent move to the Phoenix proved a winner as the word spread about the night people started swarming from all over the UK to taste the experience. One of our definitive moments so far came on NYE 2004/05 when we hosted the Radio One and 1Xtra live broadcast for four hours. This was history in the making as it was the first time there had been a simultaneous broadcast on both stations. With over 2000 people taking part live Metropolis put Manchester firmly on the map as the World listened in. With so many great memories it’s important to remember Metropolis has been built on quality home grown talent, we recall one of our resident’s nights when 500 people turned up and the DJs got so blind drunk they could hardly see! So many good times, so many things to be proud of, ahem.Fast forward to the present and Metropolis has gone onto change the face of clubbing in the North of England. Now Metropolis stands on the brink of greatness with its expansion across the UK and beyond. Monthly events are in place in Leeds, Sheffield, Edinburgh and Liverpool in association with long-standing techno promoters Voodoo as well as back home in Manchester. A new chapter is born.
