Making the breakthrough into the world of the D&B MC is no small task, yet 28 year-old SP:MC has managed to establish himself as one of the busiest & most innovative on the circuit in the last 5 years. He proudly represents Shogun Audio [after establishing himself as DJ Frictions MC of choice], & Emcee Recordings [MC GQ made him resident at his own Emcee Monthly Sessions in London after hearing one of SP's early mixtapes]. He has also represented for labels as diverse as Hospital, Renegade Hardware, Commercial Suicide, Prototype, Bassbin, Good Looking, Metalheadz, Quarantine, Digital Soundboy, Soul:R, Exit Innerground, DNAudio & Valve.
Versatility & quality control are a guarantee when SP's in the building. He cites MC GQ, Dynamite & Conrad as early influences. 2003 saw SP:MC nominated for 'Best Breakthrough MC' at the Knowledge D&B Awards [alongside Eksman & Armarnni Reign] and then more recently he was nominated for 'Best MC' [alongside Eksman & Skibadee] at BBC 1Xtra's XtraBass Awards in March 2007...
If a diary bulging with U.K gigs & worldwide tours wasn't enough, SP also started to produce tracks in 2005. Collaborations with Breakage ['Shadow' on Breakage's debut LP, and 'The Lurgie' on Shogun Audio] set the standard, followed by tracks with fellow MC Verse ['Surrender', 'Border Patrol', & 'Lost Souls'] received heavy rotation from the likes of DJ Friction, Andy C, Goldie, Marky, Grooverider, Fabio, D-Bridge, Marcus Intalex, Doc Scott & Break. May 2008 saw SP's firing dubstep track "Trust Nobody" & "Future" [with Joker D], released on the infamous Tempa imprint. The 12" not only had a great response at street level, but also received widespread critical acclaim...
Thanks for passing through peeps...
More collaborations with Breakage, D-Bridge, Break, Commix, Alix Perez, Verse, Joker D & Youngsta forthcoming...
