"Original, Contemporary, American Folk Music..."

About Me

ABOUT MARTHA ANN BROOKS Member of Indiegrrls, the Songwriters Guild of America, and BMI.
Listed on the webpages of the World Folk Music Alliance (www.wfma.net/wwwperf.htm) and Atlanta Country Music (www.atlantacountrymusic.com/bands.html)Martha Ann Brooks has the heart and soul of a true storyteller. Her songs are grounded in traditional folk music but have contemporary and unique elements that keep them fresh. The quality of her voice and playing allude to the influences of Guy Clark, John Prine, Emmylou Harris, Gillian Welch, and other similar artists.
Her performances draw people in, touch their hearts, and leave them wanting to hear more.
Born in Montgomery, AL and raised in Augusta, GA, Martha Ann graduated from the University of Georgia before moving to Atlanta where she soon began her career as a solo artist. After a successful year playing solo, she expanded her act and performed with bands for the next five years, garnering a nomination for Female Vocalist of the Year from the Atlanta Society of Entertainers along the way. Martha Ann put her musical career on hold in order to begin raising a family and to focus on her other creative endeavor, painting. Her passion for music was rekindled by a recent move to Northwest Georgia, where she began writing and performing again.
Martha Ann has been receiving an excellent response to her songs and performances at clubs, house concerts, festivals, and Songwriter events.
She is currently available for select bookings.

CD REVIEW by ROOTS MUSIC REPORT (http://www.rootsmusicreport.com/reviews/folk/folk.php)
Great news, folk music fans! Martha Ann Brooks’s CD, “Simply” released this summer gives you everything you could possibly want in folk music. The songs are folksy indeed and they are presented with such passion and heart that listeners will find themselves totally engrossed.
Brooks ably demonstrates her considerable creative songwriting talents with imaginative lyrics that are both thoughtful and thought provoking. The songs on the CD contain compelling tales and messages that flood the listener with emotion.
Her rich vocals crystallize the stories with rhapsodic fervor and the acoustic guitar accomplishment completes the experience. This is just the right amount of instrumentation to allow the lyrics to flow seamlessly.
Listen to this CD and you will be richer for it.
