Biography: The name Hog Hoggidy Hog has been etched into the mosh-wounds of the South African Punk/Ska scene. It’s been 11 action-packed years since the young hoglets blessed the decaying stage of the Purple Turtle with their debut performance. Over a decade down the line, not much has changed. They may be a lot more professional and sound a lot tighter but it’s sometimes still a struggle to keep George Bacon’s clothes on.
They’ve played every big festival in the country. Including Woodstock, Oppikoppi, Splashy Fen, Up the Creek, Mr. Price Pro, Uprising, Knife Fight etc etc etc. They’ve had feature articles in magazines such as Blunt, stage, SL and even Cosmopolitan. Their songs have gained extensive radio play throughout the country, especially local varsity stations who are more dedicated to the less commercial South African music.
In August 2005, the Hogs embarked on their first overseas tour to Europe. They played a mixture of smaller club gigs and bigger festivals throughout Germany, Austria, Switzerland and Slovenia. The audience response was a sign of great success and a bright future. The hogs realized that there is a definite hunger for their unique African ska flavour overseas.
The forthcoming album is to be produced by Theo Crous in his new state of the art studio in Bellville with the recording process beginning in late July. Bowline has also taken over the distribution of the Oink! album and will be a great asset for the new album. So far, 2006 has mostly been reserved for preparing new material for the forthcoming album. But never fear. The new songs are in the bag and you’ll be seeing a lot more of the Hogs back on stage.
