Not My Dog, a hard rock band from Pretoria, South Africa, was formed ten years ago in 1996. Three EP’s were released from 1996 to 1999, ensuring a loyal and concrete fan base. The year 2000 saw the launch of their first full-length album "Dogumentary". The album featured collaborations with stars like Ready D from Prophets Of Da City, Hamma from Darker Shades of Phunk and Mr. Fat from Brasse Vannie Kaap. Collectively showing that NMD's then hardcore / hip-hop sound was going national. Singles from “Dogumentary” both climbed to number one on 5Fm’s Modern Rock Chart along with various regional and campus stations. Not My Dog’s follow-up album “Braai Vibes” won the South African Music Award (SAMA) for Best Rock Album in 2003. The launch at Oppikoppi and the album wowed many, as seen through the words of a well known journalist, “…with the combination of a laser show, pyrotechnics, groupie dancers, razor sharp musical performances, and a concealed guest appearance by Strings 'n Skins gurus Greg Georgiades and Ashish Joshi, the CD launch left audiences in awe…” The album’s nu-metal riffs fused with modern jazz surprised and amazed old fans and ensured a large new following. Ample airplay was received for six tracks, “Jor da Fire”, “I Told You”, “Hello Again (See Lucy)”, “Dodgy Dog”, a cover of Koos Kombuis’ “Verslaaf” and “Here Comes the Dog” which features a mastermind guitar solo by the legendary Johnny Fourie. Not My Dog has performed and headlined all major South African festivals including Southern Cross Festival, Woodstock, Oppikoppi, Up the Creek, Bosberock and Kaktus op die Vlaktes. The band hits the road often with numerous national tours under their belt. 2002 also saw Not My Dog on an international tour of Germany, The United Kingdom and The Netherlands, which had them stun the Fierce Festival in London. Not My Dog adopted five African wild dogs that are currently kept at the Pretoria Zoo. The band sponsors food, medical costs and holds benefit concerts on behalf of the African Wild Dog Association. Not My Dog’s fifth release “False Dog” will habitually be launched at the 11th Oppikoppi Wired festival on Friday the 5th of August, 2005. The new album resonates heavier than ever. The pack consists of Jorik Pienaar on drums, Lanie van der Walt on bass, Juan le Roux and Hugo de Waal on guitars. Newest member, Dino Giovanonni with his exceptional melodic vocals, euphonizes the guitar driven jazz inclined harmonies and radical time signatures to the next plane. The first single “Hit Radio” has already been aired on Barney Simon’s Night Zoo and the response has been overwhelming. Next singles will be “Baal”, “Different Approach” and “Weak Breed”. The album was composed over 12 months and took three months to record at the vastly improved Wolmer Records. Produced by Lanie van der Walt and Larry Pullen the album is sure to thrill anticipating fans. Bowline Music will handle distribution of the album. Make sure to catch Not My Dog live and enjoy the album “False Dog”.
