ABOUT ME
My mother is of Latin origin & was born in Caracas, Venuzuela, South America. My father English. I live in the beautiful town of Warwick in a very cool house with lovely gardens. I have a highly intelligent & handsome dog named Nanu whom I found in Spain when he was just a few weeks old. I also have a lodger who is a great guitarist. I teach & perform music (Flamenco & Blues) & also work 3 days a week with adults with learning difficulties & limited mobility. This is also very rewarding & the guys I care for are great fellas. My starsign is cancer, I drive an old red Mini, but would love to have an old VW Van again. I love to cook all sorts of different dishes esp good simple honest healthy food. I love animals, the sea, boats/yachting, mountains, nature, adventure, travel, running, cycling & endurance sports. I used to be in a boxing club which I loved. I also like to write & am currently writing a book. I love all types of people & am inspired especially by people who are fearless or if not people who do things they are afraid to do. People who follow their dreams with love, drive & ambition with or without fear... regardless. The one word best to describe myself would be passionate....
I Love films & this one is my favourite, The true story of a young Che Guevara....

MY STORY
.....Got sacked from my publishing job, got compensation for unfair dismissal & bought my first guitar with the cash! Studied electric Chicago Blues, went onto fingerstyle Missisippi Delta Blues then sold my house, gave away the furniture, bought a 1970 V.W. camper van (named 'Betty Blue') & headed for Spain for a 6 month tour of Andalucia, home of Flamenco...I returned to England 2 years later with my little Spanish dog that found me - Nanu! (my family were missing me!) Toured & busked every city in Andalucia after having met up with a friend (Spanish guitar's & Mandolin). After the three month tour settled in the beautiful mountain region of Granada...'The Sierra Nevada'. Studied Flamenco with a local in exchange for chopping wood, and also learned bits along the way from Gypsies & Spanish folk. I was often asked to play accompaniment while the local's would sing (Paco, a mountain goat shepherd with his gravelly heartfelt & often humourous voice & Jose who had a sweet voice with such emotional depth it would penetrate through your soul!) To the men and women whose soul shines through their eyes and whose heart is on their lips.......Solea x

THE BLUES ROOM
"We have professional musicians play here every week & were surprised to learn Matthew didn't even begin to play guitar let alone Flamenco until he was nearly thirty years old, Matthew looks & sounds like he's been playing since he was a small child !"

IT TAKES TWO TO TANGO...Scene from 'Scent of A Woman'

NANU

Mountain Man
CADIZ 1999....THE OLD WOMAN... Walking along the seafront to the hush of the sea, it was a hot day with an arid sense surrounding me, the smell of salt in the air & looking down at the pavement mirrored the glare of the sun blinding me into a dreamy state. I saw an old woman weary, looking weathered by life like the buildings surrounding her… by the sea, salty air & winds that have caused them to start to crumble. There was an ancient feel about the place, full of history, adventure & old tales. The woman stopped as she saw me and just started talking to me as if I were a close friend, she was holding some bits of fish & pointing over to the other side of the wall to the rocks away from the promenade, then she threw the fish there & a stray cat appeared with 6 or so kittens on tow from out of the rocks & concrete, the old woman was then laughing & giggling at the site of them as if she were a child, there was a look in her eyes of having lived a hard life, a look of pain, yet laughter and acknowledgement was also there, a tiredness, & softness, I felt she had the look of a woman widowed from the man she loved wondering if they would ever reunite, she then smiled at me & scuttled off into one of the many narrow side streets in no time at all like the shy crab crawling to hide under the rock it was just sat on. Cadiz was painted in sea life, & yes I felt like a crab amongst the rocks scuttling through the narrow streets & turns to be then pleasantly surprised by walking into a little plaza full of flowers, I guess the Crab had found his little spring pool ! ‘Plaza De Flores’ the smell was sweet, pure & tasteful, the houses that enclosed the plaza were old & seemingly leaning forward like a wave about to break in the sea, with tiny balconies & yet more flowers.THE BLACK CRABS...But first a little poem"Hard on the outside soft in the middle, have you ever seen a crab going for a piddle The lateral crab moves side to side, seeking out places to crawl in & hide Shy & quiet...you can't always tell, often hiding... in my hardened shell I travel across the sand... sea & stone, like a gypsy & caravan travelling with home If you scare me... I scuttle away or retreat, but back me in a corner & I'll fight you on my feet"I stopped as I walked along the harbour having spotted some large beautiful black crabs crawling amongst the rocks, I started to observe these quiet creatures and what I was about to see was something quite profound & beautiful…two crabs were caressing each other like two lovers for all to see, stroking each other with their pincers and even with their little legs. At first I thought one was attempting to climb over the other but the longer I observed the more affection I saw, every now & then the sea would crash against the rocks, the crabs would disappear & get washed away then reappear like magic, shaken but not stirred but these two lovers were hanging in there unaffected by the oceans power, a deep love that could not be broken.
