Cate Blanchett was born in Melbourne, Australia on May 14th, 1969. She attended Melbourne's Methodist Ladies College, where she expressed her love and skill at acting by becoming the school's drama captain and appeared in several plays. From there, Cate went to Melbourne University, and eventually dropped out. After taking some time to travel around the world, Cate moved back to Melbourne and then enrolled in Sydney's National Institute of Dramatic Arts. After graduating from NIDA in 1992, Cate began her stage career. She excelled onstage in Australia, then soon went on to star in Australian television shows before being discovered by Hollywood. Her first Hollywood film was "Oscar and Lucinda" in 1997. From there Cate got the title role of Queen Elizabeth I in 1998's "Elizabeth", for which she was nominated for a Best Actress Academy Award. Cate's other films include the 3 "Lord of the Rings" films, "Charlotte Gray", "Veronica Guerin", "Bandits", and "The Aviator", for which she won the Best Supporting Actress Oscar.Her upcoming films include "Babel", "The Good German" and "Notes on a Scandal".
