Hello, my name is Dharma. Dharma means Natural Law or Reality, and with respect to its significance for spirituality and religion might be considered the Way of the Higher Truths. It is difficult to provide a single concise definition for Dharma (just like the definition of life fails to convey its connoted complexity). But, for now, Dharma is me, I'm a cat. Being the type of cat who tries to follow the path of allowing the self to dissolve away in order to find deeper truths, I can't say exactly how I came to end up at the animal shelter my Mom found me in, but there I was skinny, silent, folded up in meditation, contemplating the ways of the world and trying to tune out a littler of puppies that would soon be diagnosed with Parvo and leave... I saw my future Mother walking the dogs, bringing them treats and playing with the other cats until it got dark outside and it was time for us to be loaded up and transported back to the shelter, they were going over their lists and checking to see that all the animals had a foster home to go to when they noticed they had somehow overlooked me and they asked my future mom to take me "just for the night" because otherwise I was out of time. I knew what that was a euphemism for and while I was content to pass into another realm, that was not my destiny and so home I went, on New Year's Eve 1999... A big old baggy sliver tabby cat that no one had wanted. I had had a few litters of kittens and only the universe knows what happened to them... But, I went home and as often happens, my Mom decided to keep me and deal with the paper work later... Months passed and the shelter seemed to forget about me and my Mom drifted away from them sick of their disorganization and bad attitudes... I developed an illness that to this day no one quite understands and I went blind and almost died, twice. But, slowly with the help of a wonderfully enlightened holistic veterinarian I was nursed back to health, almost completely. And now this baggy old blind tabby cat wanders the house and meditates in the front window, contemplating the wonders of the world both those seen and those unseen. That and sleeping on people's heads.
