Band History written by Jim Lyon.......In 1978, when I was 13 years old, I heard a song on the radio. It was by a band called "Cardiovascular." To this day I never found the band or its music! But it was punk rock...
By the time I was 17 I was caught up with the music. I followed a band from my hometown (Hayward, CA - 25 miles south of San Francisco) called "Social Unrest." I would sit in front of their garage door and listen to them writing the song "Making Room for Youth." That made me want to start a band.
Kevin Reed, who would become the vocalist for Teenage Warning, lived down the street from Social Unrest's singer Creetin K-os and Maire, their drummer's girlfriend and I. I rented a couch for $100.00 a mounth We decided to form a band and started writing songs about the topics at that time.
We hooked up with East Bay drummer Todd Kramer and Barrie Evans, who moved from Oklahoma to Oakland. The punk crowd that we hung with was about 20 people tops. We called ourselves "EBU" East Bay Underground. This was made up of all the people who skated or hung out at Blondies Pizza in Berkeley or who lived across the Bay from San Francisco and were into hardcore. Dean Washington is the founder of "EBU" as far as I am concerned. "EBU" is 20+ years strong to this day"BELEIVE IT" and "EAST BAY THRASHERS" is a advicate....
Teenage Warning played with Social Unrest, MDC, UK Subs, the Faction, Fang, Crucifix, Deadly Reign, and other bands that played at the Mab, the Farm, 10th Hall, the Tool and Die, the On Broadway, the Off Broadway, Ruthies Inn and Barington Hall. This was way before the Gilman Street Project and Green Day. It was the Circle Jerks, Black Flag, Flipper (the Grateful Dead of Punk rock) and all that shit. It could be a game show to name them all. Hey....We were what we were back in that day. When punks were getting picked on or beat up at every BART station, we said "NO" We are the ones with the rad haircuts and your "BLACK EYE" is because you fucked with us!!!!After Teenage Warning's demise, the members would go on to play in the following bands: Christ On Parade, Powerhouse, Numbskull, Attitude Adjustment,Deface, EMC (Erect Monkey Cocks), SCU (Shasta County Underground), EBU (East Bay Underground).
