J-Smooth is a 23 year old talented Hip Hop Artist from Boston, MA who is
coming up fast and building a strong buzz in the music industry. He
breathes Hip/Hop and takes his music very seriously. Growing up in
Glendale Housing Projects, he started to rhyme at the age of 12.
J-Smooth quickly realized his potential to be successful with his
newfound passion. By the age of 15, notebooks were becoming filled with
songs and lyrics from front to back. After turning 18, J-Smooth took his
first trip to a recording studio to lay down some tracks.
With 5 hot tracks in his possession, J-Smooth decided to press up some
copies and hit the street. Getting a lot of positive feedback from the
consumers, J-Smooth felt it necessary to distribute more music for the
masses. Selling over 1,000 copies of the CD soon gave J-Smooth some
respectable recognition, and several offers from independent record
labels.
Considering all of his options carefully, J-Smooth decided to join
forces with a long time friend and business associate, who had many ties
and connections in the music industry. By the age of 20 J-Smooth started
working on his debut freshman album "From The Bean". While writing and
recording songs for his album, J-Smooth started working with several
different producers from all over the country, including "RAW",
"Buttaskotch", "C-West", "The Quiet Man", "Hazardous Materials
Productions", "Huck B", "Jus-Listen", "Crispy D", "Real Music
Productions" and "Ray Fernendes".
Recording all of his music exclusively at Boston Butta Beats Studio,
J-Smooth got the opportunity to build with many other local artists. Putting the finishing
touches on the album in early 2006, J-Smooth started receiving calls
from different promoters. Taking advantage of every opportunity,
J-Smooth has performed at many different venues in New England
including: "The Middle East", "Waterworks" and "Club Lido". Bringing a
powerful presence, dope lyrics, and banging original beats to the stage,
J-Smooth has been rocking shows and has plenty more to come, so keep an
eye out for show flyers around the city and any promotional material on
the internet with J-Smooth's name on it. Don't miss out on his live
performances!
Releasing his classic debut album "From The Bean" on his own independent
label "Smooth Records" in the summer of 2006 J-Smooth smashed the
streets! Pushing well over 25,000 copies of the album, which features 20
tracks all produced with precision, the album has been a huge success.
Crystal-clear sound quality and compression grabs the listeners'
attention and keeps it. The album was professionally mastered by Nelly
Protools at the Scratchismz Studio. With the assistance of fellow artist
Octane, who features on 4 of the 20 songs on the album, it is a very
diverse and well-rounded masterpiece. With songs for everybody J-Smooth
wants to be able to reach as many crowds as possible, from drug dealers
to single mothers. Spitting conscious/positive lyrics without using
profanity this hungry MC is ready for the big time.
Soon after releasing “From The Bean†J-Smooth got back in the lab to work on a collaboration project with Octane in the summer of 2006. While writing songs for this project J-Smooth and Octane wanted to emphasize on the struggle of being an inspiring artist. With the help of producers including “Jus-Listenâ€, “Crispy Dâ€, and “Ray Fernendesâ€, J-Smooth and Octane were supplied with gritty Hip/Hop beats to compliment. Having 15 tracks on the finished project called “Building A Buzz†Vol. 1, which was recorded at Boston Butta Beats and professionally mastered by Nelly Protools, J-Smooth has moved over 5,000 copies.
Now at the age of 23 and coming off the success of the 2 projects he has out now,
J-Smooth is venturing into all aspects of the music business. He is currently working on 2 new albums, and projects with other artists on his label. He has also been very involved with the community by working with Citizen Schools Program and teaching an after-school apprenticeship called “Music Biz 101†which consists of 10 students in the 6th and 7th grade at the Gavin Middle School in South Boston. The apprenticeship quickly adapted to the music business and formed a group called “Gavin Go-Gettasâ€. They have a CD out now so make sure you show your support and pick one up!Also co-founding "The Boston Youth Hip Hop Shop" with Citizen Schools J-Smooth was just featured in the "Dorchester Reporter",and "The Boston Hearald" with articles about what he is doing working with the kids.
