The Academy of Ballet Florida opened in 1973 under the direction of Marie Hale and Lynda Swiadon. Through the years, over 100 students have gone on to professional careers in dance with companies such as American Ballet Theater, Stuttgart Ballet, Royal Winnipeg Ballet, Houston Ballet, National Ballet of Canada, Ballet Florida, Hubbard Street Dance Chicago and the Paul Taylor Company in addition to Broadway shows, national tours, film, music videos and television.
Young students are accepted yearly into summer programs all over the country including the School of American Ballet, Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis School at American Ballet Theatre, San Francisco Ballet School, Houston Ballet Academy, Alvin Ailey Dance Center, Pittsburgh Ballet School, Julliard and Boston Ballet School. We believe that the Academy of Ballet Florida should provide each child with superior training, both technically and artistically.
Our programs equip the serious student with all the skills needed to dance in any company – whether it is ballet, modern, jazz, or musical theater. With this goal in mind, our programs focus on student training for dancers of the 21st century, training that develops and grows to meet the demands of a changing art form. The benefits of dance training are not specific to students training for a career in dance.
Discipline, self-control, respect, self-evaluation, and critical thinking are only a few of the many life skills that dance training develops. These skills are introduced in the primary levels of our curriculum and continue throughout the open program. We train not only the body, but also the mind and spirit. It is our intent to train dancers who are not only beautiful to see, but also a joy to know.
Classes in Ballet, Jazz, Tap, and Modern for all ages and levels -- including classes for adults in Dance, Aerobics, Step, Exercise and Yoga.
