2008-2009 Season
Fall Series
The Four Temperaments
The Bell Witch
October 24-26, 2008
In honor of Halloween, the Ballet opens with The Bell Witch, Middle Tennessee’s own real-life ghost story, based on the best-documented haunting in America. The audience is invited to participate by wearing 3-D glasses to maximize the special effects in this spine-tingling story. Also on the program is the Nashville Ballet premiere of George Balanchine’s The Four Temperaments, an ingenious work of timeless appeal. This program will be accompanied by The Nashville Symphony Orchestra.
Nashville's Nutcracker
December 12-14 and 19-21, 2008
For your family’s ultimate holiday treat, Nashville Ballet is presenting a spectacular all-new production of Nutcracker. This charming ballet embraces all of the time-honored traditions of this story while placing them in the 1897 Tennessee Centennial Exposition. This is truly Nashville’s Nutcracker with the addition of historical landmarks, famous families of that era, dazzling costumes, shiny new sets and scenery, and over 200 children from the Nashville area community will be cast in imaginative new roles. The Nashville Symphony will be there to perform the glorious Tchaikovsky score. Special pre-show activities will include a festive Victorian Winter Carnival outside the Tennessee Performing Arts Center. Opening night attendees will also have the opportunity to attend a pre-performance gala dinner at The Hermitage Hotel.
Winter Series
Twyla THarp's Sinatra Suite
Jungle
Clowns and Others
Adjustable Wrench
Febuary 13-21, 2009
The winter program features the Nashville premiere of a romantic Twyla Tharp piece, Sinatra Suite . Featuring standards such as “my Way,” “That’s Life”and“Strangers in the Night,” Tharp, known for the smash Broadway hit, “Movin Out,” dazzles with her theatrical and inventive choreography. James Canfield’s brilliant and bold Jungle takes ballet to the urban forest, and Paul Vasterling’s neo-classical Adjustable Wrench is a feast for the eyes. Rounding out the program is Salvatore Aiello’s delightful Clowns and Others.
Carmina Burana
The Golden Cage
April 24-26, 2009
The grand finale in April will be Carmina Burana (created with the entire family in mind). The talented dancers of Nashville Ballet will join forces with the magnificent Nashville Symphony and the 200 voice Belmont University Oratorio Chorus onstage to create an unforgettable feast of music and movement..

Overview
Nashville Ballet has earned its rightful place in the artistic life of Middle Tennessee and is valued as an indispensable asset to the Nashville community and the surrounding areas.
Founded in 1981 as a civic dance company and becoming a professional company in 1986, Nashville Ballet has flourished into the largest professional ballet company in Tennessee, earning the respect of Nashville audiences and reviewers alike by making classical and contemporary ballet accessible to new and traditional audiences.
The mission of Nashville Ballet is to create, perform, and promote dance and provide educational and outreach programs to enrich our community and enhance the quality of life in Nashville.
Nashville Ballet entertains, educates and inspires more than 40,000 adults and children annually. Nashville Ballet performs both classical pieces and contemporary works by noted choreographers, as well as Artistic Director Paul Vasterling’s own works which are known and performed both nationally and worldwide.
The Regions Bank School of Nashville Ballet
The Regions Bank School of Nashville Ballet is committed to providing Nashville and surrounding communities ballet training at a professional level. With campuses in Nashville and Brentwood, the School offers a diverse population entrée to the world of dance. The School provides a path for career minded students and also cultivates an appreciation for dance, generating a lifelong passion for the arts for all who study.
Please visit the school website for more information on registration, placement, and class schedules.
Learning Curves
An intrinsic part of Nashville Ballet’s mission is our commitment to community outreach and education, which impacts children, families and seniors throughout the Middle Tennessee area. For this reason, we developed Learning Curves, our comprehensive educational outreach program. Today we reach over 50,000 children and adults in schools, libraries and community centers throughout eleven Middle Tennessee counties with live performances augmented by the use of teacher’s guides and interactive learning sessions which demonstrate the grace and athleticism of the classical ballet dancer.
Through collaborations with the Metropolitan Nashville Public Library, Davidson County Head Start Centers, Book ‘Em, Belmont University, the Frist Center for the Visual Arts, Metro Nashville Parks and Recreation and social service agencies, we introduce children and adults throughout Middle Tennessee to the rich performing art of dance. Implementation of Learning Curves has allowed Nashville Ballet to increase its range geographically, intensify efforts in areas already touched and provide programming in schools where arts education is lacking.
