BALLET PHILIPPINES

Beyond dance, Beyond Asia, Being the new Filipino!

About Me

..BALLET PHILIPPINES is the country's premiere dance company. It has the sole distinction of being the first artistic group of the Cultural Center of the Philippines with 38 years of leadership in the artistic arena of Philippine dance. The company evolves continuously as it uses the disciplines and tenets of the West and combines it with the Filipinos innate imagination and creativity. It is foremost in the development and production of innovative works that bring out the best in its dancers. Its impressive repertoire of over 370 works accumulated over the past 38 years is unmatched by any other dance company in the Southeast Asian region. Although wide in range, the most prominent dance creations are uniquely Filipino in terms of movement, theme, design and inspiration. Its repertoire of dance masterpieces are without equal and it displays the company's potent dance tradition, flexibility of style and electrifying sense of theater. Bestowed with worldwide critical and popular acclaim, most of the choreographies combine the formal beauty of ballet and contemporary dance expressions. Ballet Philippines continues its legacy of making dance a vital and dynamic art form. Various dance pieces are an ebodiment and reflection of the Philippines today - grateful with the wisdom of the past yet very much an active participant of the ever-changing present. These dances will stimulate minds, expand the horizons, and stir the souls of the viewing public.

My Interests

The CCP Dance School is the professional training ground of the country’s most promising young talents in dance. With a unique curriculum that encompasses various dance styles and techniques, the systematized method and approach to instruction takes highly into account children’s anatomy at various ages and levels so that the training is first and foremost physically safe, technically effective, and artistically interesting for all children.Constantly at work and in performance with acclaimed local and international dance artists, the CCPDS students are strikingly different from other dance students. Discipline, dedication, full knowledge of theater decorum and etiquette are the core values that the system imparts together with technique training and artistic mastery.Regular courses in dance (Classical Ballet and Modern Dance for all levels) including specialized lecture series and workshops are offered from July to March. From April to May, the school conducts a 6-week intensive technique training culminating in a dance showcase at the CCP Main Theater.Through a consortium agreement between DLSU-College of Saint Benilde and Ballet Philippines, college degree courses in the Performing Arts major in Dance are now available. Academic subjects are taught at DLSU-CSB while Dance Technique classes are conducted by Ballet Philippines. To encourage excellence among its students, the CCPDS and its mother company, Ballet Philippines, maintains the highest roster of scholars in the country. Scholarships are given to all training levels from children to advance dance students on a regular basis. The scholars comprise the elite group of the school, who by their status, become candidates for company membership. Scholars regularly perform at the CCP Main Theater for the company’s season productions. Any CCPDS student from 8 years old and above is eligible for scholarship and may join the regular auditions conducted both by the school and Ballet Philippines. The scholarship categories include Children’s Level, Male Scholarship Program, Provincial Student Scholarships, Company Scholarship and Company Apprentices.
