About Me

Mike Malone aka Rollo Banks
1942-2007
I've been extraordinarily fortunate in my life to love and be loved by some remarkably talented men. This one I was married to for 15 years. There's a hole the size of the Milky Way in my heart right now and not much likelihood it will heal in this lifetime. That cracking sound you hear is the mold being broken on men like him.

Love living in Austin, my job at the AUSTIN CHRONICLE , and my boyfriend, BURNIN' MIKE VERNON .
The fab photo usually on my profile page was taken by the ever wonderful TODD WOLFSON . Hair and makeup by the magnificent TISA BEAN for the incredibly talented DEBORAH CARTER 's world famous PINK SALON . All done up for THE AUSTIN MUSIC AWARDS , natch.
I also really love these little fellas, McCoy and Campbell. ADDENDUM 12.06 I feel compelled to report that McCoy (left) is part devil and part bat as well as chihuahua. Campbell (right), on the other hand, is a lover and at three months he is taller than the others. We think there's very little Chihuahua in him. New pics to come!
THINGS TO KNOW:
Yes, there's a chance you can play the AUSTIN MUSIC AWARDS . It's better to encourage votes in the AUSTIN CHRONICLE MUSIC POLL , however. I really do read the votes and read between the lines.
No, I can't get you an SXSW showcase.
Yes, it's possible I can review your CD but no promises. Mail it to the Chronicle to my attention.
No, I can't do a story on you. Stories are assigned by my editor and if you think you're worth a story, pitch it to him.
Yes, I do try to listen to every CD I get. I just can't write about them all.

My Interests

Duh, rock & roll. This is me around 1980 with the adorable Texas Blondes

Below with my wonderful friends Clifford and Susan Antone, Patricia Vonne and Robert Rodriguez, and my brother Stephen. Brothers and sisters all.
Here's my sweet darling love, Burnin' Mike Vernon of 3 Balls of Fire, playing the Austin Music Awards at SXSW, 2006

Plus, I am a history geek, especially Celtic, Irish, Scottish, Welsh and English history. And the Vikings and Saxons. Not always admirable but astonishingly resilient.
