I moved to Austin in 1972, summer to be exact, it was June. I was married to a bass player. We had met Tommy Shannon in Wichita Falls a few months earlier at an out door gig where Krackerjack was playing with Unc, Tommy, Bruce, and John Stahaley on guitar. We had talked to Tommy at the end of the show,and he gave us his phone # so that when we moved here we could be in touch. We arrived and rented a house on 7th and Blanco behind Mother Earth. We went to the Waterloo Social Club, the One Knite, and the New Orleans Club and met the inner sanctum music scene with open arms. My husband at the time subsequently played bass with Jimmie Vaughan when he had Storm as his band, and it was the town big fish. Stevie's coming out in Austin was in Blackbird a band with 2 drummers and 2 guitarists. Stevie had just moved here right after we did. In the summer of 73, Marc Benno had a band called The Nightcrawlers that Stevie played with and Keith Ferguson on bass was in that group as well. There was Paul Ray and the Cobras soon after that with Alex Napier, Stevie and Rodney Craig on drums. We were going to The Black Queen, La Cucaracha, Soap Creek at Rollingwood, and The Rome Inn. Those were musical days of magic. Austin was small and there was really no 6th street. I felt a glow of being in a very special scene, and it has never been duplicated in this town since. .. .. > ..> >
