About Me

I started playing in bands in Dallas when I was 14. My mom used to take me to gigs in her station wagon and sometimes she would wait in the car like it was soccer practice .I am sure I got into some of those bands not because I could play but because my Mom had this great '59 Ford Ranch Wagon . By the time I was 16 I was playing pretty regularly everyweek at some clubs that the cops wouldn't go into with out some serious back-up. I dropped out of school and ran off to join the circus of the Rock and Roll veriety . By 1972 I was playing every night 6 sets per night at the Cellar Club .A notorius coffee house that went from Beatniks and folksingers to some of the most badass blues and rock bands on the planet . They also had the occasional fight , shootings , bouncer beat downs Oh , and waitresses and female customers dancing in their underwear on stage with us .My Mom was NOT WAITING IN THE CAR ! As I Was working my way up from dumps to dives I got a call from L.A. to join Jo Jo Gunne . 4years and 3 albums ,many many tours , a marriage ,step-fatherhood and a divorce later I was in the middle of a fullblown midlife crisis at age 26 .So having played my last card and lost I did the only sensible thing and headed back to Texas in 1980 I SPENT MOST OF MY MONEY ON FAST CARS , FASTER WOMEN AND BOOZE. THE REST I JUST SQUANDERED !I now live in The Capitol of the World ,Austin Texas and play with fellow Jo Jo Gunne member John Staehely in TEXAS' MOST ROCK AND ROLL BAND ,The Dead Pyrates Society . along with my old pals ,Joe Kennedy on guitars and Mark Hamilton who plays the drums .My attitude toward rock and roll is that it should always be on the ragged edge .It's like a drag race ,It's either on or it's off ! To paraphrase racing legend Mario Andretti , If everything is safe and seems under contriol then you aren't playing hard enough !!!I'll tell you more another time .
