DOYLE BRAMHALL’S HIGHLY ANTICIPATED
IS IT NEWS SEPTEMBER 18“[Doyle Bramhall] is as influential as he is influenced...â€â€”Austin Chronicle
Legendary Texas singer, songwriter and drummer, Doyle Bramhall returns with the long awaited Is It News, his first collection of original material. Yep Roc Records releases the album on September 18.
“I wanted to make an all-original record that was big, energetic, intimate, and unpredictable,†Bramhall states. To co-produce the album, he chose longtime friend and collaborator Louisiana swamp-rocker Charles “C.C.†Adcock. Adcock describes, “When Doyle asked me to co-produce this with him, I thought about him as a human being and what is the perfect portrait of this man I know pretty well and love dearly. Him as a songwriter, as a great singer and deliverer of those songs, a consummate drummer and beat man, and someone who’s always surrounded himself with amazing guitar players.â€
Appearing on Is It News are Bramhall’s son and guitar master Doyle II, bandmates from the past Denny Freeman and Jimmie Vaughan as well as Adcock, Mike Keller, Mato Nanji, bassist Scott Nelson, keyboardist Billy Etheridge among others. Is It News features 12 songs written over the course of Doyle Bramhall’s personal and musical life. “Chateau Strut,†was originally constructed in 1974 when Bramhall, Stevie Ray Vaughan and keyboardist Billy Etheridge were warming up at Club Chateau in East Texas, and “Cryin’,†written in 2005, was recorded in post-Katrina New Orleans at The Nappy Dugout & Up with Mike Napolitano.
Doyle Bramhall has been an integral part of the Texas music scene for over 40 years beginning with his first band The Chessmen, who opened for Jimi Hendrix in 1968 when Bramhall was still in his teens. Following the success of his acclaimed solo debut Bird Nest On The Ground (1994), Bramhall went on to produce critically acclaimed albums by Marcia Ball, Indigenous, and Chris Duarte. He released his Yep Roc debut, Fitchburg Street—a heartfelt ode to the blues and R&B—in 2003.
A national tour in support of the album will be announced shortly.
