Circumflex

About Me

Circumflex has gone through many phases. It began as an experimental sci-fi influenced electro/electronic band in 1999 with Steven Souza (Circumsteven Souzaflex) and Adam Trelatsky (Adamflex Circumtrelatsky). The band recorded one song and wrote several others, but due to artistic differences between Steven and Adam, it disbanded mid 2000. Roughly two years later in the summer of 2002 Circumflex reuinited with similar musical intentions. All new songs were written except the famous "Life Sim 5.0" which is the only origional Circumflex song existing today. Adam incorporated the bass guitar and the sound was still more electro and was certainly not Synth Pop. The group played their first show at The Mainzer in Merced (the main hall still not 100% finished at that point). The group disbanded after this show again with plans of reuiniting, as Adam was en route to Holland for one year. When Adam returned from Holland in 2003, the project was once again reuinited and the music took a turn in a different direction. Three new songs were written: "Terror", "Artificial", and "Mad Scientist". The Circumflex Demo released at that time contained "Terror", the origional recording of "Life Sim 5.0" (from 2000), their cover of "Disarm" by the Smashing Pumpkins, and "Artificial" at the end. "Artificial" and "Mad Scientist" paved the way for the new synth pop sound of Circumflex. Late 2003, Steven decided that Synth Pop didn't interest him and left Circumflex for good. Adam decided to attempt to keep the project alive as a solo endeavor, and began searching for musicians to assist him as live support. Late June of 2004 he finally recruited Jenna Vanderbeek to assist him live, and they played their first show with the new lineup July 7th, 2004 with Mankind is Obsolete and TV in Fresno. The project continued with this live ensemble and Adam running things in the studio, then expanded to a new live member when Adam finished building Charles 2.0 in October 2004. Charles played his first show with Circumflex in November of 2004. This was the existence of Circumflex until July 7th, 2005 when Circumflex played their last show as a group. Now Circumflex only exists as a studio project until Adam can find new members with which to share his creative visions.
