BBC 6 Music

Closer to the music that matters...

About Me

Launched on 11 March 2002, BBC 6 Music is a digital (DAB) only radio station broadcasting from London to the whole of the UK (and the world!) 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
6 Music plays the music that matters from the last 30 years to the present day. Our mission is to champion new music, celebrate heritage music and open up the amazing BBC Music archive to listeners. You're as likely to hear Sly Stone or the Clash as a red hot band discovered by Steve Lamacq yesterday.
By using a music database of over 3,000 tracks from the past 40 years (including BBC archive sessions from the Light Programme in the 60s to John Peel in the 90s) and a contemporary and influential playlist, 6 Music is the nearest a radio listener will get to the unpredictability and enjoyment of the shuffle feature on an iPod. 6 Music puts the music of today into context with the great music of the past.
The most recent RAJAR audience figures (Q3:07) gave 6 Music a weekly reach of 485,000.
Thank you for choosing 6 Music!!

NOTE TO BANDS/ARTISTS:

I'm sorry, but due to the sheer volume of messages we can't listen to all the tracks we're asked to check out here on MySpace.
6 Music does have a two hour show specifically for music on MySpace and similar pages recommended by listeners: Tom Robinson's "BBC INTRODUCING: FRESH ON THE NET" at midnight on Saturday nights. Tom and the team do listen to every single track that's nominated and the show features their pick of each week's suggestions. Because of sheer volume these have to be made via Tom's Recommend Music page - where listeners and artists are welcome to suggest anybody they like, including themselves. You can hear Tom's most recent BBC Introducing show here
There are other specific slots on 6 Music where we play demos/tracks by unsigned bands. Each Friday Steve Lamacq plays a demo in our 6 Music Unsigned feature. To submit a demo, please send a CDR and a biog to Steve Lamacq at this address:
BBC 6 Music
Room 540
Western House
99, Great Portland St
London, W1A 1AA
You can also contact Steve Lamacq here on MySpace: He's got his own page, and his unsigned page which is here . This is a great way of getting in touch with The Man Lamacq.
Upcoming artists are also featured on Shaun Keaveny's Band Aid feature... a simple concept. He plucks a new act on the cusp of stardom and asks listeners whether their record is worthy of a play and a 'big up' on the breakfast show.
Good Luck!
