About Me

Well, i always like to travel, am a bit bohemian but for the last 17 years worked as a self employed mechanic, been a semi pro bassist for the last 27 years, been playing bass since i was 19, to this end music is really important to me, its helped me travel and meet many people, i lived in montreal, been to most of europe, all through music and playing bass, theres no better thing then doing what you love with people you like,i did a stint with a soul band for 2 years in 2000 as a trumpet player, (i was schooled in trumpet as a kid but hadnt played for 30 years) I always hoped for a bit of fame and fortune, but then so have most of you reading this, in one way or another, i bet. I have done some pro touring,tv,radio etc...in the late 80's with a jump jive act called 'Rent Party' but other than that all low key stuff, not for the want of trying though, I try to keep up with technology, enjoy cooking, have been a veggie since...oh 20 years ago at least, since it was unpopular to be one ! At the moment im a free agent and for hire after gigging with the Andy Robinson Band for the past 2 years. Previous to that I was in a Bowie trib for 5 years called Changesbowie, we learnt over 80 bowie tracks and hardly scratched the surface of his wonderful career, did i say I like italian motorcycles, wine and food, well ive owner Laverdas, Ducatis and at the moment run a Gilera RC600 and a Moto Morini Kanguro. Well, whats new, Im working in a band called 'KAYL BLACK'with an immensly talented singer songwriter, we just got signed to CAULDRON SOUNDWERXS in the states, so all hands to the pump to get some great music to you, I hope it all pans out well and after 30 years playing and never getting it outta my system im really hoping for great things, creativity is in your brain and it does twist your melon, but ive not let other things slide over the years and have held my end up, so to speak, so a bit of karma would be real sweet right now.

My Interests

PLAYING BASS FOR A LIVING SO... IM FOR HIRE IF YOU NEED A BASSIST

I'd like to meet:

As many wonderful and origional people as i can, who don't know someone, who knows someone who knows a friend of mine...who knows me...DOH!Someone with a teleporter, so i can get home from gigs quicker ...

Music:

Since I sneeked into my sisters bedroom when i was 10 and started borrowing her t rex, king crimson, nick drake and deep purple albums whilst around me was leftover pop from the 60's, i have always liked music for the music 1st, not the fashion, so i can listen to the clash or kate bush, jethro tull or xtc and feel free of the burden of fashion. Bowie said 'fashion comes and goes, style stays forever'. Fave bands are too numerous to mention but its often the actual musicians, so here goes...the police, yes, joan armatrading, jethro tull, xtc, starsailor, coldplay, nickle creek, king crimson, the neville brothers, peter gabriel, bill bruford, uk, jeff buckley, cocteau twins, van morrison, joni mitchell, bowie, kaiser chiefs, ed harcourt, alison krauss, laurie anderson, talking heads, stevie ray, vaughn williams...see what i mean!

Heroes:

Always a bad idea to have heros, they never live up to your expectation, ive met a few greats and ...well, like all of us they are flawed but dont realise it, here we enter the world of ego, another topic altogether, however Jaco and Jeff Berlin are bass playing hero's of mine, as is Tony Levin, as they do inspire me and they live up to an incredible standard of creative musicianship. Kate Bush for sheer inventiveness, Peter Gabriel for the same reasons. Top Cat, he was a hero of mine when i was small. (and i still am.)
