About Me

I'm a freelance bassist working with several bands in the Atlanta area. I have been playing the bass since 1963 and still enjoy making music. I do mostly blues based material, but I dabble into jazz and funk stuff now and then. I started off on the bass at the young age of 11. I used to listen to my uncle's jazz collection when I visited him. I remember how the bass kind of sucked me in to the whole song and how it was there and always moving and providing the beat and groove along with the drums. And the tone!!! The whole room would vibrate. While most of the guys I knew then where getting into music, almost all were picking up the guitar. I chose the bass and I'm glad I did.I've done session work and played with several groups over the last 40 years or so including: (in no particular order)The Brothers Brooks, Motor City Josh and The Big 3, Chicago Joe Jones, The Electromatics, Frankie Moates, Fat City Wildcats,, The Breeze Kings, Andrew Black, Ross Pead, Donnie Mac, Rough Draft, Niel Larsen, Richard Betts, Jai Johnson, Theodis Ealey, Eddie Tigner, The Healers, Steve Tachovich & Friends, The Patrick Vining Band, Frankie Lee Robinson, Larry Griffith, The Warren Project, The Middle Georgia Moonshot Loretta Brank & Sugarfoot, Uncle Ernie, The Stanley Kimball Band, Southfield, Jerry Reed, Elaine Sangster and It's Crackin', Zebulon Pike The Felix Brothers, Mocean, John & Mike McClelland, The Cave and a few others I can't remember... I'm always the guy they call when they can't find anybody good. If I've left any one out let me know.I started doing gigs when I was in Jr. High School. We did school dances, battle of the bands, and stuff like that. After I graduated, (1970) I moved out and met new cats that had real gigs and started doing that. There weren't a lot of bass players around so I got lots of gigs. In 1972 I left California to work with a band doing the mid west college/bar circuit. We did North and South Dakota, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Iowa, Missouri, and Illinois. That lasted about a year and the group split up. I met a girl in Sioux Falls that was going to Georgia and she asked if I would help drive and split gas and such. Hey WTF? I'm stuck here with no car, no house, and barely enough cash to ride the bus back to CA so I came down here, I've been up and down the east coast from Myrtle Beach to Key West and all over th southeast. I ain't getting rich, but I'm enjoying the ride...
