Conflicting mass of media misinformation cd reviews........
Black Fenrir review.....
For anyone who has been a part of or followed anything for an extended amount of time, the impudence that things were only "truly good back in the day" is sometimes the echoing sentiment for many a dinosaur. Last week I bought a CD that had the "New School" playing "Old School" hardcore with the passion of originality that makes creaking bones and gaping gums of yore feel all the warmth and fuzziness of the early 80’s. Yep, "A Conflicting Mass of Media Misinformation" from Social Schism is a shining example for the continuous march of quality punk/hardcore music for present and future generations of music fans to come.Right out of the gate I was blistered with "Social Disease" evoking memories of Jerry’s Kids and MDC. Followed by my personal favorite "Nick Griffin’s Guilty" and "Masculine Bullshit" it was easy to see that Social Schism was not merely "Gerbils in Blenders" rubbish, but a true "method to the madness" was quite apparent. I have to say they reminded me of greats like SSD, DRI, and Double O because these chaps are not just spewing nonsense, they have a message and it is "In Your Face", real and aggressive. In the middle of the mayhem is a cool track called "They Shall Not Pass" - a bit of a ska/reggae flavor spiced uniquely by Ben, Aaron, and Willbo. I especially liked this track not just for its witty content and catchy beat, but because it gives a glimpse of this bands potential to expand their musical horizons. After this, once again I was pummeled by "Battle for Cable Street" which is a real rippin track. That is followed by "Hate Trip", "Fight" (you can’t help but sing along with this song) and the humorous but intelligent "Biff Molests Girls".For the younger fans, this is a great opportunity to get a good feel about how hardcore was played 25 yrs. ago, but with a new and improved attitude of a great up and coming band, respecting the tradition and adding to it! For us dino’s, this is like "the holy grail" once again being shoved down the mainstreams throat, opening eyes that people still have choices of their own to make! The one downside - NOT LONG ENOUGH! :PThe upside - This band has plenty of motivation and passion to expand on unlimited potential.GO GET A COPY TODAY!!!
Ultimate Conformist cd review.........
Social Schism’s cd A Conflicting Mass of Media Misinformation has threatened to destroy my cd collection!Seriously. It took all the successful bands in my collection, lined them up against the wall, and thrashed the hell out of them! It was beautiful. This cd is everything that it should be. It wakes you up and makes you pay attention. My favorite track was the dual effort of They Shall Not Pass/Battle For Cable Street, but every track pleases.Everything you heard about the death of punk is a fiction put forth by people who would not look beyond the Wal-Mart bin. Next time you here someone say "Punk is Dead", shove this cd down their throat.
