About Me

Raised in a small village in the wilds of West Norfolk (England), songwriter and musician Peter Appleyard, has always found the big skies and open spaces of his home county the ideal companion to his creative imagination.
Primarily drawing together acoustic, folk and rock influences, Peter is happy to give his musical instinct a free rein and draws on whatever feels right. What you can expect are rich dynamic melodies, poetic lyrics, powerful and distinctive vocals and the odd anthemic hook thrown in for good measure.
To understand where Peter takes his inspiration from, listen to the early 'folkier' leanings of 70s acts like Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin and Elton John. Following on from these you are also likely to find him listening intently to albums by Ryan Adams, Neil Young and more recently Damien Rice and Jack Johnson.
Peter set about writing his latest EP, The Promise, as an international collaboration with New Zealand based songwriter Kevin Harty and Canadian songwriter and musician Freddy Bolen. Utilizing the unique atmosphere of The Mill studios, based in rural south Norfolk, ‘The Promise’ took shape under the watchful eye of Jonny Cole (Catherine Feeny, The Rushes) and was launched worldwide in late 2007. The EP has started to gain widespread attention, following the track Sleepless winning the ICR FM music producers competition, netting Peter some free studio time as the prize.
To date Peter’s musical path has taken a diverse and interesting route, testing his skills in writing music for television, silent films, musicals and even venturing into classical music. If you have been listening to your TV carefully you will have heard Peter’s music being used as background music in Eastenders and Doctors on BBC1!
From the earliest folk club jam sessions, to supporting national touring artists, Peter’s music has always been captivating. As his musical repertoire grows, so does his fan base!
