Light and shade. Beauty and ruin. Jump Ship inject style into Trip Hop. Synthetic complexity is aligned with the acoustic nuances of cello and guitar to support an ecliptic, dark and disarming feminine vocal charm. Conflicting the classic and the contemporary, the Bath based sextet’s perfectly balanced yet authoritative glimmer of the future resonates the passive, aggressive and progressive.
Jump Ship formed in 2005 when founding members Mike Evans and Louise Coady set out to create a sound which encompassed various elements of electronica, hip hop and folk. The band expanded with the arrival of guitarist Owen Shiers and cellist Laurie Ross. Programmer and multi-instrumentalist Theo Ellis and drummer John Blake completed the group's line-up.
Musically reminiscent of Lamb, Massive Attack and Bjork, the band utilises a multitude of voices and textures, creating a rich and intricately layered sonic-scape.
Live, Jump Ship possess a dynamic, compelling and competent presence. The group are currently writing and recording their debut album for Naim Audio's new Naim Edge label with producer Head (PJ Harvey/Massive Attack), due for release in mid-2008...watch this space!
