Growing up, I could not escape the smooth sounds of Nat King Cole and the sophisticated vocals of Nancy Wilson. Jazz was the early foundation of my youth, but I easily adapted to my mother's collection of R&B and soul from Donny Hathaway, Aretha Franklin, Wilson Pickett, James Brown, Stylistics, Spinners, Diana Ross, Maze ft./ Frankie Beverly, Al Green, Gladys Knight and Isaac Hayes. Everything from the music pits of Stax and Motown became a part of my musical odyssey. I then exposed myself to the luxurious grooves of funk and disco and began my collection - that collection continues to grow and mature with different sub-genres like Euro-disco (Cerrone, Love & Kisses) and psychedelic & retro-funk (Barkays, Cameo, Parliament, Con Funk Shun and the S.O.S. Band). I am also grateful to the impact Earth Wind and Fire, Chicago, Phyllis Hyman, Daryl Hall & John Oates, Chic and Barry White left on my life. Their music opened my ears to the sensitivity to the soul and learning the art of merging styles in order to unify cultures and races. Gospel took off in the early 1990s for me...I dreaded the music before, but when I gave my life to Jesus Christ, I will never forget the first gospel song that ever put tears in my eyes. "Changed" written by Walter Hawkins did it for me. And my life became renewed with joy and zeal. My musical mentor is the late Thomas A. Whitfield. His life, ministry and determination for excellence impacted my life tremendously. I'm glad to say I own EVERYTHANG by the Maestro - and I just got "With My Whole Heart" (mp3). And Im so grateful.......
